What to ask for a Rifle?

I know this is the Competition Forum, but I finally completed the HBR Rifle based on the beautiful blue stock that Ed Bernabeo won at last years NBRSA Score Nationals.

It’s a late model Remington RR action with a side bolt release, PTG bolt with Speedy Shroud, 1/16 firing pin, I trued the threads and action face with the bolt way. The aluminum picatinny rail is mounted with 8-40 Torx screws. The barrel is a 1-17 Bartlien cut to 22 1/4 inches in length with the “standard” zero free bore .330 neck 30 BR chamber. I cut the barrel far enough down the taper to allow for 25+ ounces of rings and scope. With the limited number of the old super lite HBR scopes out there, this is something to consider.

I do not build rifles to sell, but since neither Ed or I shoot HBR, We kinda made it a project since he had the stock.

Any thoughts on what we should ask for this?

I have never done one.
Ed and I agreed that he could donate the stock, which is his and has a certain monetary value, and I could donate my time for the action work and chambering and fitting the barrel, which also has a certain monetary value.

That leaves the initial cost of the action, the PTG Bolt, the Pic Rail, and the trigger.

The Action was $325 when I bought it.
PTG Bolt with Speedy Shroud $270
Bartlien HBR 1-17 30 Caliber Blank, $465
Pic Rail, $30
That’s a little over $1000 in parts.

Add to that the Stock, which is easily wort $800, and my work which is worth at least another &600, you come up with around $2400.

So if Ed donates the stock, and I donate my labor, we could ask $1500 and let who ever buys it feel Ike they got a great deal or raffle it, or donate it themselves.

I completely understand your investment and the investment of others.
I would think that if you put it up for a raffle then that would generate the highest price particularly if you hold the raffle in a location/venue where you and the other contributors are known.
If you're asking for a particular dollar figure, I can't help you there but I WILL say that $1500 is ridiculously low.

I'd feel like a thief at that price. $3K is probably realistic. It'll probably go higher than that in a raffle.

A hundred tickets @ $100…
Have it on display at a major event, I speculate that with such good odds {as compared to winning a Power Ball} you would have no difficulty selling all the tickets… Perhaps even put it up on the Forum if the moderator allows.
That would generate a significant donation to a good cause.

Jackie does that here, I'll try my chances. Been thinking about dipping my toes in benchrest and I've spent $100 on less worthwhile causes. 30BR would definitely work for me.
