Anschutz 64 shim

I recently acquired an Anschutz 64. There is a paper shim under the rear action screw and am wondering if it came from the factory this way or maybe a previous owner added it. Maybe some of the Anschutz guys can shed some light on this? Thanks fellas. E

I had a MPR 64, and did not have anything like that. Looks like the previous owner did that. Some people try the foil tape method, or the rubber patch/washer in the action area, or along the barrel channel to improve accuracy as an alternative to actually bedding the action in the stock.

Thanks Sep, I thought it could be a way to insure there was no wood touching the action between the two action screws, but that’s only a guess. E

We must have posted at the same time. It makes sense but I’m not hip to rim fire stuff. E

No, Anschutz doesn't use paper shims. I doubt a paper shim would accomplish any benefit for accuracy. A good way to increase accuracy would be to play with the torque settings of the action screws starting at 15 inch-pounds and not exceed 35 inch-pounds in a wood stock.

Interesting: I just bought a used Annie 64 like yours. Turns out if I press down on the crown end of the barrel it will rock the action and lift up a tiny bit in the rear of the action. This occurs no matter how much I torque the rear action screw. To me this means the part of the action secured by the front action screw is resting on wood but the rear part of the action secured by the rear action screw isn't. There must be something acting as a fulcrum in between the action screws. Wonder if your gun had the same problem and they corrected it with the rear shim?
