Bergara B14 Semi Custom?

I have a Bergara B14 that I'm considering using as the basis for a Semi Custom . The action , I believe , is one of the later actions with a metal bolt shroud and better bolt welding .
There's very little information over here in the UK .
Is the B14 worth rebarreling , will it support a 26 inch Varmint barrel with a moderator and do they require truing?
My plan is to build a 6mm precision varminter , I have considered selling the standard rifle but the 2nd hand market is very flat over here .

Thanks Guys

I don't know what kind of custom features are important to you, but I've got one of the B14's with the metal bolt shroud, and chassis stock. that stock is very generous in the barrel channel, and I think pretty good for a build.

I'm almost certainly gonna get a Remage barrel for mine in the future to expand its versatility. As far as trigger goes, mine is pretty sweet just the way it came. I've also got no problem with the accuracy of the barrel that it wears now. (6.5 CM) jd

Thanks for the reply .

I'm just planning on using the action , I've managed to acquire a preloved Accuracy International AT and a Timney Hit trigger .
Rebarrelling an action will set me back over £1k , if I use a decent British barrel . I'm hoping to keep the costs down, if possible.
Shooting is becoming prohibitively expensive over here , fortunately I handload which helps .

Some of the rifle smiths around here could probably give a valid report on the worthiness of the Bergara action for what you're doing. I'm not gonna run my mouth about that aspect, based upon the accident that I happen to have a B14. jd

They're building custom rifles on Savage Axis rifles. I would think a Bergara B14 action would be a much better option.

Not a fan of the B14 cocking piece/bolt shroud setup but it works.
I have a B14 that is on its third barrel. Came new as a 6.5 creed, after around
2800 rounds I sent it back to Bergara to be re-barrled to 6mm creed for $500.

Shot that barrel out and Bergara no longer would do the re-barrel service so
it went to a smith and is now a 25 creed.

The action has performed very well for me, the only issue I have had is the
ejector spring lost its tension over time and Bergara sent me new parts.

Remage barrels will not work on a B14, it has a coned breach.

Hmmmm... I've been told by a member here who does Remage barrels that the Bergara/coned breach thing isn't a problem. Perhaps I misunderstood. I'll have to check. jd
Its not a problem but a remage will not work, the barrel tenon is different.
The barrel has to be made specifically for the B14.

Good to know , that gives a little more confidence. Did it require any truing?

$500 for a rebarrel , we can only dream of that over here .
