A couple ole Mauser builds

Finished up two old Mauser project builds today, no worries I would never tear apart war guns, these were just parts and pieces I have had laying around and a couple ole actions from a bygone era of my building rifles.

The first one is in 6.5x55 Swede
Built on a M98 Styer action
Krieger 1:8 twist 22" barrel
Boyds wood stock, with my custom Woodland camo paint job

The second is also in 6.5x55 Swede
Built on a Yugo M44 action
Adjustable trigger
Winchester side safety
Wilson 1:8.5 twist 26" barrel
Boyds wood stock with my custom Urban Camo paint job

As these are old actions I decided to stay with the low pressure 6.5xx55 cartridge and load it modestly. These are just going to be simple target and maybe deer rifles. I am going to gift the M44 to my 13 year old nephew as his first rifle. The other will be added to the collection.

It's funny those scopes we had in the 90's that seemed awesome, Are very dark to us now, Most Chinese scopes in the 400.00 to 500.00 range are far superior glass nowadays compared to the higher end stuff from the 90's. I know I have a Springfield Armory scope 2nd gen, It looks horrible when I look through it now compared to Scopes of today.

You are 100% spot on, the glass has improved so much now. Arken, Athlon, Burris all have good scopes around the 400 to 500 mark. I am a Meopta fan but cannot afford to equip every single rifle with a scope that runs $1400, I have far to many rifles for that. Athlon has been the BIG surprise the last couple years. You can get a very nicely made scope for hunting in the $350.00 range, clear glass, great light transmission, rugged, and repeatable. Arken is the same but they are BULKY for hunting rifles, I have a bunch of them, I like them, but they are big, mostly I use them on target rifles.. Athlon is just about perfect for any hunting application.

I am a firm believer when it comes to scopes you typically get what you pay for, but there are a couple real deals out there where you get every once of performance for your dollar.

I recently purchased 5 of these and love them for the $322.99 price tag!
