First loads with 6.5, H4350, sierra 140gr...powder load?

I took a brand new Lee seater for the Creedmoor last month with a Hornaday 95 vmax and some polishing compound and quickly got rid of that ring.

Re Creedmoores, tried to do the bullet with sandpaper wrap, and it improved it a bit, but with the hornady tipped ELDM 140s, the tip was being a bit pushed...the std stem isnt deep enough. The Hornady die, and its stem, was definately better, deeper for the longer bullets, but they make stems that better fit the VLD (very low drag) bullets....

So I am now waiting for that VLD stem , and should be good to go. I am going to also try some Lupua scenars 139s as well. Just experimenting right now! Eventually I will get to the range!

Update...recieved the Hornady seater and VLD seater stem....works well, no marks.
Additionally, had ordered Redding version as well to test...and that works great too with these type of bullets.

Tried with Sierra Tipped matchKing 140s and the tips are not touched. Tried also with Lapua scenars 139gr...aslo good.

Now just need to get out to the range....maybe this wednesday...

Got to the range yesterday to give my varied 6.5 loads a try.

All worked well at 100yds.

At 200 yds, liked Lapua scenars 139gr, and hornady ELD TMK 140GR. I had the sierra game king 140, which at 200yds did not seem consistant? I have sierra match king version (tipped), I will try next time.

So, I have just also have gotten some Lapua Scenar OTM-L 136GR...will give those a try as well...then pick one of these combos I have and stick with it.

6.5 creedmoore seems to be pretty accurate...

And...happy with the new browning x-bolt target max 6.5...

I was looking at the Vihtavuori powders, but unsure what to use with 6.5 creedmoore 140's, and .308 155gr?

For 6.5, tables seem to show N140 and 150, for 308 N140.. Currently for 6.5 H4350, 308 I have been using Varget, for 223, have been using H4895... would like a new powder for 223....really hard to find H4895 and expensive!

Curious what others are using VIHT with and what loads?

Thx

N555 worked equal to H4350 for 140's.

For the 6.5 with 139-140 gr bullets - N140 is definitely going to be too fast burning. I think you'll get high pressure and not much speed.

I found that N150 was only good up to 130 gr bullets. N150 gave me too much pressure and low speed with the 139 Scenar. I could only get about halfway through the recommended powder range before that happened.

I started load development with N160 and the 139 Scenar, no pressure problems and the initial results looked good. I didn't finish the development with N160 because I had about 5 pounds of H4350 left to use up. Once that's gone, I've got N160 waiting in the wings.

VV powder choices for your 223 loads are going to depend heavily on your choice of 223 bullets, both type and weight.

There are a few recent threads about that that are worth reading.

Thanks for your info. Next batch will try the VV powders, using yours and others recommendations! Might be next month. regards.

Once you get around to the Scenars I believe you'll find joy and happiness.
I shoot 123's and 136L's, both great bullets in the creedmoor
Question: what powders have you been using with the 136L ...just got a bunch. Hodgdon, Vihtavouri? and which type...ie, h4350? VV N160, N555? other?

I need to try the 130 weight’s. Hornady’s data shows some speeds I like with Accurate 4350, which I have on hand.
The 130 grain, ELD-M's, ARE Money for, Accuracy and Low, LOW, Recoil from, a 24" BRAKED, Rifle.
If, "Needing" More than 8-850 Yards range on Steel Plates,.. try, the 140 gr. "M's".
Accuracy is, Awesome FOR the Price,.. on BOTH Bullets !
I'm getting 2,850 FPS from, a 24" Tikka T-3 in 6.5 Creed with, 130 gr. M's and group's in, the 3's and 4's repeatedly,.. using, 43.3 grains of StaBall 65 Powder, F-210 M Prs, in Lapua or, Peterson Brass.
