Modular SAC die and REDDING shell holders

I am new to the SAC modular dies.
Today I was using the modular die with regular shell holder and I changed to the competition shell holder to get additional shoulder bumps. But I didn't get the bump, then I changed the shellholder to a smaller number, I still didn't get the additional bump.

I use my Comp. Shell holders with regular dies.

Is there a reason that it doesn't work with the SAC die?

TIA

I thought Comp shellholders where taller deck? You zero die with a taller Comp # then you can get more shoulder push back by going to a smaller # or a standard holder. People keep buying the Comp holders to increase setback but it works the other way.

I set mine to a standard SH and then start with the .010 and work down until i get the bump I want. Has never failed me. Overall SH height is the same, its the deck height that varies. I've never used a SAC die.

^ This.

I have a SAC Modular die. It works the same as a standard die for adjusting shoulder bump.

Have you tried the shims supplied with the die?

I use a Forster CoAx press, a bit of a different beast, doesn't use conventional shell holders.

That aside, the SAC die I have, Creedmoor, requires a LOT of force to seal the deal. In all fairness, I use a shorty handle on the press so leverage is constrained that way. I employ cam-over to get the proper, consistent bump. When I started fiddling with the die, I overdid cam-over to where I could practically push the shoulder into the head (just kidding). With a conventional press, if the die bottoms out on the shell holder and that's not enough to bump the neck, I can see how that's a problem.

If I was faced with this issue, I'd cut a shim to take the place of the shell holder, then use sacrificial brass to see what it takes to get to desired bump, that way I'd know if a modified shell holder is even in the cards as a solution.

Seriously, give the guys at SAC a call, they’re great. They will walk you through the solution to your issue step by step. I use one of their modular dies, but I’ve never used the competition case holders with it. I can tell you that they recommend the use of the competition case holders with the dies if I’m not mistaken. Good luck!
