6 BRA, low node...

20PPC

I'm still working on a load for my 6BRA and had heard the lower node will give better and more consistent results and ags..
With that being said I had good results with a hotter load of Varget 32.32 gr. at 3070 fps but one day it shot great the very next day opened up like a shotgun.
The load that seems to be shooting well now is 29.84 of Varget at 2835 - 2845 fps, would that seem about right for the lower node.
I'm new to shooting 600 yards and need the rifle really dialed in to make up for my lack of shooting ability.

My bra was the same way close to 3100 shot great today tomorrow nothing. I dropped back considerably and did a ladder test. At a lower velocity I had just as good a groups that were much more consistent. As I continue to go up on my ladder test the groups opened up then they started to get smaller again as I got closer to that higher velocity but I quit as I knew what happens up with that velocity. I use h4895 and also 8208 XBR and my two bra's.

I don’t shoot benchrest but my 2 barrels shot varget and n150 at 30.3 range and 2880 for both barrels different manufacturers different reamers. Both have been extremely consistent for the life of one barrel and 1000 rds on the other.

I have a good amount of 6BRA experience. I think you will find a happy spot between 2860 and 2880. I use to run it hotter around 2900 but found it was a bit hard on brass. Choice of powders is H4895 first, then either Varget or N150 behind that. Just depends on what you have available. If you want to shoot above 2900 with 105+ gn bullets, I recommend you pick a different cartridge like a Dasher or GT.

XBR8208, .007” in from touch w/ Lapua brass, Berger 105’s in a Bartlein 4 groove finished 30” @ 2945 FPS is an absolute hammer. The gun is setup properly and just flat out shoots.
How much 8208 are you using? I recall you said 30.1 gr in another thread.

I just ran a comparison of a lot of H4895 and a lot of 8208XBR in a new Bartlein 5R 6 BRA and was getting 2930fps with 29.8 of H4895 and 2940 with 30.0gr. I only got up to 2895fps with 30.1gr of 8208. Had a slight bit of bolt lift pressure there so I stopped there.

This lot of H4895 seems a bit faster than previous lots I have used which were typically right at 2895-2900 with 29.8gr.

What is your bbl length? And yes 30.1 gr…

You are correct. 2850 to 2880. Best node I think

We are using 30.1gr of 8208XBR.
@ChristianSilver

8208 pressures out and simply can't compete with H4895 for velocity. But he said low node....
I made no mention of comparison, speed means nothing to me.
I look for the most accuracy out of a load, more so over speed. As long as the speed is reasonable.
I want a load that puts the round on target where I want it to go. This load for me bucks the wind, very predictable and most of all consistent.
Will admit we all share different opinions and have different needs and wants.
I’m more than confident in my setup.

I agree @ChristianSilver we ain’t racing. LOL

Christian I'm at 30.2. Here's a picture of my load. I was also 31+grains and well over 3k fps and it shot really small, today but probably not tomorrow.
ES and SD look good, That’s a good node your in what’s on the attachment.
How many rounds down the barrel?
What brass are you using? How many firings?
Reamer specs?
What primers?
Tuner, no tuner?
Anneal?
Large temp swings?
What is your jump?
Do you sort, trim and point bullets? At least sort by OAL?
Seating depth all the same?
Seating pressure consistent?
Do you trim brass, and are they all the same?
Neck wall thickness all the same?
Accurate charge weights?
Primer depth all consistent?
A lot of small things matter, all influence accuracy.
I have a routine finally that works well on my 6’s.
Very anal about brass prep, check throat erosion regularly. I have about .009 thou window on my seating depth, in that range or window I’m golden.
All my BRA’s that I have built tune easy, it’s definitely the easy button.
Just stay consistent in all aspects of reloading when you find a routine that works.

@rabradshaw has a gun that was built in my shop, he can testify. He spent many long evenings in my shop..
