GRT NextGen

I'll be patiently waiting for it. I don't think they have a donate option, but I'll be happy to do so. It's possibly my favorite piece of software I've ever used, and it even works on Linux.
They are still refusing financial help saying the issues are not money related. I use it specifically because it runs fine on Linux, everyone runs Linux in our home, even my wife. We're not exactly Windoz fans in this house or anything MS for that matter.

They will reopen the patreon page once it is released and they will be taking donations there. That is the last word I received.

Just checked on nexgen again and they have posted that it wont be available this year. Sad
Thanks for the update!
I'm guessing this is the kind of thing why they aren't accepting donations - they don't want people to complain about delays that are bound to happen with an all volunteer team.

Where did you find that? I checked grt-status-announcement and nothing new since 9/2023. Maybe it's an internal posting for those working on it?

As I understand it (subject to welcomed correction) there will be no release of GRT NextGen in 2025, and there is no anticipated release date or window.

Chat with us on our Discord-Server: https://discord.gg/3FEYWG4
try that, then once into the channel on the left side look for the # grt-status-announcement
I've just started trying to use it. I got it to download and it showes the graph and data for 6.5 Creedmoor with 120 grain bullet and N540 powder. I can change the cartridge but it won't let me change the bullet or powder on the graph page. I did change it on the top bar and it gave me line item printouts which was useful. I'm trying to work up load data for 6x45. It gas the option for 6x45AI but not just 6x45. It also didn't list the powder I wanted to run.

Also it said I was supposed to register but I never found a place to do that so I'm not even sure if I'm downloaded right???

Registration is no longer required. The discord will get you answers quickly.
The 6x45 is not in the database. You can design it yourself in the program or find someone who has it and they can send you the cartridge file to import. In the program instructions, it explains how to do this

I would suggest watching the various videos on basic usage and also to check the same folder on their Discord channel. That will at least show you how to interact with each menu and proper starting input as it's very much garbage in / garbage out. Discord channel has a how to section.

6x45 cartridge file is on the GRT shared google drive under calibers. You would need to download it and then import to the User Database. If you read through the discord posts, you'll see how it's done.

Ok, thanks, that's a little more complicated than anything I've done before. I'm an old guy! Lol, I am getting data off of it. I select the cartridge and the bullet weight and then select propellant from the tool bar and it prints out a bunch of data. Then I look for good case fill, burn rates and low pressure.

I still can't interact with the main graph that comes up when you start. Is it just a screen saver? I don't think so because I know I've seen on the videos people moving stuff around on that graph. I just haven't figured it out yet.

As for the 6x45 data I just used the AI version that was on there. I'll back off a grain or two and work up. I doubt the change increased the case capacity by much. I'll check it against my Lee 2nd edition, it has case capacity in it for the 6x45.

I've been watching the videos but some of that is over my head. I just have to keep watching them over and over till it sinks in. I am getting usable data off of it though. I really like the case fill and burn rate. I like the idea of having a 100% burn, I don't like wasting stuff. Thanks for your help.

I'm not too young myself and watched all I could over the winter and played with the application. Over time it started to sink in. I find entering your case length, your COL are critical to getting realistic results. I then adjust powder charge of the powder I want to use to check velocity, load ratio (I like >= 95%), and burnt propellant (I like 100%). When I have a load that I think I'd like to try, I right click its tab and select create copy so my case parameters and bullet data stays the same and select a new powder to try.

GRT has a "save as project" selection which allows you to save your multiple tabs under one file name. My project file structure is:
- Caliber (same on all tabs)
- Bullet (same mfg and weight on all tabs)
- Brass (same specs on all tabs)
- Powder (the variable I change)
- Primer (a variable I sometimes change) its found under initial pressure field. Click the star and you will have 2 selections standard or magnum.

Ther's a lot more functionality to discover and play with just take your time going through it. You can always delete what you screw up and start over. I do believe I get carried away with it at times. Anyway enjoy the experience.

Oh, I finally got the main graph working, there were boxes I wasn't checking. Lol, for now I'm just staying with cartridges already in the system. I'll try the others when I get more familiar. I've only been at it for a short time. Thanks for your help. Gordon was a brilliant man!!!

DO NOT use the information as it comes in the software. Measure everything that is measurable, such as bullet length, water capacity of a FIRED case, etc. Every detail matters. Also, use a chronograph to measure speed and then calibrate the powder model using the OBT tool to get accurate results.

Does anybody know why H380 isn't in the system? Or if the name has changed. I have a pound of it I would like to run. My manuals say it's good for 7mm08, 260, 243, 22-250, etc. But I can't find it in GRT.
