ROTATOR CUFF AGAIN

AZmark I'm fused from L3 down to my tail bone, 8 surgeries.
Went to dr this afternoon, shoulder is being scheduled for replacement. Looking at the MRI and it shows complete tear of rotator and tears in the bicep.
Another 4-6 months of recovery. No shooting until at least MaI

That scares me.

Has injections today on each side of my spine. They are talking about deading the nerve. Not too sure about that.

Yes, getting old sucks.

Getting run over by a Buff didn't do me any favors with my back either .... (I'm alive .... he isn't, so in the long run, I won).
I tried the corticosteroid injections before both of my surgeries and it didn't help at all. They did work really well and last a long time for my knee and shoulder.
What's a Buff?
Time to start taking care of ourselves?????????????

That's a hell of a lot of back surgeries and pain. I'm hoping to have enough sense now to take better care of myself, or take it a little easier. No more packing out elk or deer for me. Either will have my sons hunt with me (between the 2 of them they usually come and hunt with me for elk) or I'll be hunting much closer to the roads. No more heavy lifting around the homestead anymore. Wife has given me warning to wise up!

So sorry. But there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve had a total of 5 rotator cuff repairs 4 on the right and one on the left. The one on the left no therapy and it came out great. I don’t think there is a more painful surgery on the body.

After right shoulder fixed in 2012 and left one done in 2016, It's time for the left one to get the flavor of the month...reverse shoulder arthroplasty Feb 20th. Looks like a lot of precision tools, some bone removal, lots of hardware and maybe some glue. And a slide hammer. I'll let you know about the pain.

Good luck. I've had both shoulder's supraspinatus muscles, bicep repaired. All seems well. Good luck with your third foray into usable shoulders! :)

Had the left shoulder rotator cuff repaired 4 years ago. Bad tear, bicep torn, massive arthritis. Surgeon i went to does alot of surgeries for NFL teams and st louis blues. New procedure was done and wore a sling for two weeks and then started therapy. I did exactly what the doctor said and followed therapists instructions. HURT LIKE HELL, worse than back surgery but I grinned and beared it. Strength about 95 % and great mobility, but I went at it hard. 66 now and it's still doing great. LISTEN TO YOUR THERAPIST!! Ran into a guy who had it done two months before me and he is still having problems, but fought the therapists and wouldn't do his work outs because "it hurts"! The shoulder is one of the hardest joints to rehab but stick with it and it will get better.

I feel your pain, well pretty close to your pain. Four years ago I had L4-L5 spinal fusion and it seemed to be a success. At almost exactly a year after surgery I was out quail hunting and all of a sudden my back started to ache, by the time I drove home about 20 miles I was in terrible pain. Had to go to the emergency room 75 miles away to get treatment where I just got xray and painkillers, the xray showed the surgery to be intact. Took me two weeks to see the surgeon and he put me on steroids. It healed again but slowly over the next 3 yrs the pain came back and I was diagnosed that the L3-L4 disc had herniated into my spinal cord. Went to a neurologist this time around but the diagnosis was the same, surgery needed to fix it and soon. Just had the L3-L4 surgery last Friday. The surgeon ended up taking out the hardware from the first fusion so he could make the 2nd fusion work better so that meant more trauma to my spine. At home now recuperating and so far it feels good except for the surgery site healing. Severe leg and hip pain are gone. Drop foot is better. Fukin painful and it suks to get old!
I broke my back in '91. The MRI showed scar tissue all around it and it was badly calcified indicating that I had broken it previously and never knew it....it had just scarred itself back together.

The neurologist said that I needed a fusion. He told me that the chance of the fusion making things better were about 20%, the chance of it making things worse was about 20% and the chance that I ended up right where I was, was 60%. I also had two bulged discs that were also complicating things. I chose to do nothing figuring, it had healed once, it would probably do it again.

What followed was 6 months of the worst pain I have ever had and 2-3 days a week of PT. I finally gave up on the PT and decided to try a chiropractor. This P'Od my mother who was an old school nurse and hated DOs and chiropractors. My mother told me that chiropractors work on the premise that they get you feeling a little better and then tell you that they need you to come in weekly for the rest of your life (she wasn't completely wrong from what I've seen).

I saw an add in the paper of a brand new chiropractor in the area who was absolutely beautiful so, of course, I chose her. She was just as beautiful in person but, she was about 5 feet tall and weighed maybe 90 pounds. I am 6'2 and about 225 at the time and I didn't think she would be able to help me. She looked at all the images and said she thought she could help me.

I laughed and said words to the effect of "you can help me but it will take 2 visits a week for the foreseeable future right?". She then said, she could fix me in 12 visits or she couldn't help at all. I agreed and sure enough, in 6 weeks I felt almost perfect. I said thanks and walked out and I have never had a serious issue with my back since. I have tried chiropractors a few times since but, they all wanted me to come in regularly for "maintenance".

What is the "shop hourly maintenance" fee these days? As bad as the franchised auto dealer rate?
