Why not a 243 AI??

I have a chance to put together a 243 AI..... Long story short, the barrel is already chambered with very few rounds and I have the rest of the parts. It is a sporter weight barrel for a carry weight varmint rifle.
My question is what are the draw backs with a 243 AI? Will it feed from a factory Remington mag? I don't think they are known to be finicky to tune a load for but I could be wrong...

Please educate me.
Thanks

Mine is a single shot action so can't reply to that question but it is an easy button for tuning and mine is a custom build by ODCR that is very accurate.

ODCR also built my 243AI. That was about 3 years ago and it still shoots Sierras, Hornadys, and Norma bullets so well that I'm always having trouble which one to load. It's mainly for marmots and coyotes so I expect it will last a few more years. In the 3 years I have had this rifle I have yet to trim any fired cases. My only complaint is that I can no longer shoot it as well as it can shoot. Old age kinda creeps up on you!

No worries Bro. Happens to us all. Keep shooting.

There are no certain downsides, other than if you mind fireforming. You get extra fps and don't have to trim brass anymore. I simply prepped 300 cases and went on a prairie dog hunt. Fireforming made easy.

Mine is a Savage with a flush detachable factory mag; never had any feeding issues. I have several AI rifles and the only one I encountered any issues with was a 223AI using the Wyatt detachable box mag. I can only load 8 instead of 10 or the altered shoulder dimensions cause stacking issues.

I'm curious. What are the correct dies? Should I assume there are different versions of an AI?

This side of the world we only "have" the 243 Ackley Improved and that's what we refer to as the 243 Ackley but the thread above is quite interesting

The link in this is what I was talking about on the "Correct" dies. I believe PO Ackley used a formula for the case wall taper and the 243 Win 40deg Improved dies deviate from that, at least mine did. I have read others with the same issue but not sure if all of that companies dies were that way. Die company would not send me a copy of the specs and diagram of the die so I could compare to the reamer which the reamer company was more than happy to send. You may not have an issue.
