Another "which one" thread.

Wanting to scope my new "tac gun" for Freedom Benchrest 600/1000 plus bang some steel on my range and maybe plink something "alive". Looking at either an NX8 4-32 x 50 (moa) or an NXS 8 -32 x 56.

I don't care about weight. The NSX used will be a few hundred $$ cheaper than a used NX8.

I have an older 8 - 32 NSX on my 338 EDGE and an NX8 4 - 32 on my rimfire, so I never have had them out at the same time to compare, and winter in ND is not a great time to compare. Love the Old NXS and very limited time on the NX8.

Any thoughts? Preferences? Pros -N- cons....

Setup is a McMillan A 5-7, Teminus 3 lug action, 6.5-47L and Dasher tubes at about 17.5 pounds.

Thanks,
Tod

For 1K benchrest you’ll want more than 32X. A 12x42 NSX will work. But there is better glass than the NSX now a days and 50X + on the top end is nice to have.

All 100% true. But, there is the hunting thing, and the steel thing, which takes me out to 1500+ yards, so I need the internal scope travel of the 32x and can't swing ($) a new high end March X or similar scope. Also, looking back, With my first setup I won enough 1000 yard wood to build a small house with a 8.5 - 25 Leupold VXlll LRT. I guess I could mount up one of my backup scopes (Leupold 40X comp or NF 12-42 BR) for the BR season and a lesser power scope for the rest of the year.

I see a few new builds in your future. A 1K benchrest rifle and a hunting rifle are very different animals, LOL

There’s a nice Tract Toric 4.5-30x56 in the classifieds. I love mine other than the one thing you don’t care about - weight. Glass compares favorably to my NXSs & older ATACR 5-25x56. Can’t speak to the NX8 or newer ATACRs.

I need to get to a 1000yd shoot in Trout Run. Not to shoot, just to watch.

I’ve looked at results before and saw that the 300WSM has been very successful at 1000 yards. Is it the dimensions/design of the case or the short action that makes this work so well?

It's the driver!!:D

Actually, it's NOT the short action, because mine is built on a 10 inch long, 2 inch diameter BAT "L" action......probably the longest action in existence....

I am sure case design is a part of it.

I have a NSX 8-32X56 I would like to replace with a FFP. Very good scope but not a FFP, let me know if you are interested. It's a year old and is 99%.
Thanks David

I have the NX8 and the glass is a bit blurry around the edges compared to NXS and ATACR. It doesn't detract from the performance as I am not looking at the edge but it is noticeable. At the higher powers the glass gets a bit dimmer on the 50mm compared to a 56mm objective.

I have the NXS 8-32x56 on a Tac rifle, it’s been great at 600-1000 in Tac BR and F open. It’s 1/4 min clicks not 1/8, and only 32X but it does just fine and no complaints here. You can always spend more of course.
