700 re-barrel

How old is the Remington action? If it is a RR prefix serial number don't worry about truing it.
rem 700 vls 1995 manufacture. I think as I write this I am recollecting from memory. right now a brux barrel is probably my choice. I have talked with Jeff hankins about the work.

If money is tight, he could sell the action.
If you know me, you know I’m restraining myself by not suggesting he just buy a Tikka. ;)
Tikka seems to be a very good firearm, but I just do not like em. grew up shooting rem 700s and not interested in Tikkas one little bit. understand I am not saying anything bad about them. they have proved themselves. just not for me.

lots of advice here. I do appreciate all of it!! let me come forth with more info and see if any of the advice changes the circumstances. my barrel is shot out. throat is terrible in first 4-5 inches. remarkably it still shoots decent most of the time. if, I am going to have the gun apart why would I not go ahead with the other work? I am not a competition shooter. but, I love one hole guns. tend to keep em if they make shoot groups that all holes (3) shot touch. if, not I usually sell or trade. if, selling the rifle and buying a custom from one of the custom makers is the route I need to pursue that is fine with me. in this game I will never be dollars ahead and stopped having concerns over it. speed and accuracy is not cheap in anything we do. cars, rifles, boats, etc.

Just get one of my nut barrels. If you are dissatisfied, I'll eat your hat.

To bring a 700 to custom specs is a complete waste of your money!
1-ream the raceway
2-cut the receiver face
3-true the lugs
4-bush the bolt OD
5-bush the firing pin hole
6-time and tig weld your bolt handle
7-external bolt release
8-machine bolt lugs
I would sell my 700 and buy a custom and have a much better product for less money!

For me, it would depend on what my goals are. If all I needed was 1/2 MOA, I'd put a remage barrel on it from urban - that should get three 308 holes to almost touch.

looking to re-barrel my 700 rem. want to blueprint and do all the standard practices for accuracy. 22-250 is the caliber. twist rate is still to be decided. any thoughts on a gunsmith who are known to produce typically good results in the accuracy area. located in n.e. TN. any help here would be appreciated.
I have 2 Rem 700 that shoot small. I would leave the action stock and put my money in a premium quality brand barrel like, Kreiger, Brux, Bartlein. A good barrel and maybe bed the action you should get close to 1/2" groups. Any more than that is wasted money. Don't assume putting more money into it makes it better. A 22-250 is not known to be an accurate caliber. I assume you are not shooting competition and your a varmint hunter. I shoot a 6BR and a 6BRX. I chose them because they are capable of setting records and with light bullets they are a great varmint caliber.

As someone who has a 700 thats taken me to HM in long range, the action that I use is the best timed of my 3 700s but has the sloppiest bolt fit. The face is trued and lugs mate up well and I had the firing pin bushed. Its a "C" prefix action, I believe. If you have a few 700s I would definitely look them over to find the one that may be the best candidate for more work.

I ran into an issue on my bolt gumming up during a very windy and dusty 3 day match, getting the bolt fluted would help, but instead of spending more on a 700 that i will never get the money back out of, I bought a panda instead.

A remage barrel, precision parallel recoil lug, and trued barrel nut will shoot no worse than a shouldered barrel, I have several of them. Brad, NSS, X-Caliber, Ragged Hole, PacNor, lots of options to choose from to find exactly what you want.

Not saying they are the Best, they may not be?

Sometimes it is the Indian not the Arrow ?
