.20 Vartarg Powder.

Getting ready to load for my .20 Vartarg Custom XP-100. Older loading data is available but the newer powders are not shown. Any suggestions as to what powders are best these days is appreciated. Thank you!

Try RE-7, AA1680, AA2000 with 32 or 40 gr. Sierra book suggests starting of 15 grains with either bullet. Because brass is formed from so many different cases and there are so many different chamber sizes it's best to start at the bottom. My favorite was RE-7 although all 3 perform admirably. Hint ball powders ignite better with mag primers.

Goes without saying here, though I'll repeat start low & work up w cautious observations & . 2 gr increments. Quite a few powders & a few bullets to choose from. If you were to only try one propellant I would encourage 32 gr projectiles & A2200. I have used A2200 bullets as heavy as 45 gr sp.

A few here & elsewhere have encouraged me to focus on the 32 & while good advice the heavier offerings can encounter good applications as well provided your twist rate is sufficient.

Something not mentioned in the article above is that Lapua 221 brass is .001" larger at the head than other brass. Depending on your chamber you may find it difficult to chamber.

Mine shot .061” with sierra 32 gr BK and A-5744
shot a single hole group with LT-30 and berger 35 gr varm
shot great with N-120 and the berger 35 gr varm

Thanks to all, I wanted to try 32 grain bullets and thought about the Hornady or the Berger as Sierra has not produced them all last year from what I can tell. I will be loading these with new Nosler brass.

Blue collar reloading for 32gr BT bullets
Anywhere else for 32gr Nosler varmintedon (Grafs, Mid south, midway, etc…

I use hornady to fireform with, I will not carry them to the field.

I used Starline 222 brass to make mine… primer pockets are still like new… good luck w/ the Nosler stuff…

For 32 grain Vmax bullets mine likes N120, Reloder 7, and AA 2200 and CFE BLK did well too. The first 3 averaged about 3800 fps and CFE BLK 3700 for the best loads I found. I do use the 32 Vmax for sage rats, as they are available, accurate and less expensive than others.
I use Lake City (LC) brass to make mine, and turn the necks to about .0120' - .0125" neck thickness.

I’ve shot both AA2200 and H4198 in mine. I have also found both to shoot extremely well with 32 grain bullets. I am using about 1.5 grains less H4198 than AA2200, FWIW.
