Who's got a new truck ?

@Dave M.

A few things holding me back from buying a new RAM. Maybe you can answer...
  • Can the front end be easily leveled on a RWD 6 cylinder? From what I've seen online, it cannot. I have no need for a 4WD and don't want the added expense/ complexity/ decreased gas mileage. I do need better approach angle so I don't rip off the front plastic on two tracks @ the recreational property. I did this all the time on my Silverado 1500 until I added 2" level. It was simple on the Chevy and fixed the problem.
  • eTorque. Can't get one without it. The new one I test drove was fantastic, but I'm leery of the added complexity/ battery/ potential for electrical gremlins. Obviously, all I see online in RAM forums is the ugly. Any non-biased resources you can point me to regarding the reliability of the eTorque system? I'm in Texas (hot most of the time), if that matters.
Thanks!

A. Not sure on that answer
B. Most people that have paid the extra $4-6k for the eTorque engine have not seen the return on their mpg that they were originally promised. The 3.6L only comes in the BSG (belt start generator). If you can wait until Jan 2024, that is the release date for the new 2025MY mid cycle action vehicle, which will be offered in both the 3.0L V6 turbo standard and high output variants. The 5.7L hemi will no longer be offered after January 29th, 2024. No higher warranty with the eTorque vs the non eTorque engines in the US from what I’m looking at in the system.

I'm looking for a Newer pickup than my 2012 chevy. I've been a chevy guy all my life. I have had this pickup since 2014 and really agitated how cheap chevy went with inside door panels.lol
I know alot of yall travel and I'm looking for a truck with comfortable seating and quite in cab ride.
I don't want none of these turbo trucks.. just a 8 cylinder.
Year model 2021 to 2024

I had a 2016 Sierra 3500 duramax fully optioned out Denali and have to say not only was it nice, but a dream to pull with. I'd have to keep checking the mirrors to even know I had something back there and this was a SRW. I'm talking when the wind was gusting as well. What's more is it got 13.5mpg pulling, it didn't care if it was up/down/level it was 13.5 average over 100+ miles but not pulling and no load other than the canopy it easily got 25mpg going down the freeway, best I ever got was 29. That's a 9000lb pickup I'm talking about here. Around town as expected it was kind of a pig but still not bad. I sold it height of the used market to a dealer for 3k more than I paid invested that cash and the next one is already paid for if I can ever bring myself to pay their theivory prices.

I hadn't really considered getting a replacement, at least not until my current work gig is done and I can get away but I have to say between excessive truck inventory and likely to see low or lower fuel prices if Trump drills half as much as he talks about, yeah if they cut prices on trucks I'll likely get another. That said this time most likely more of a bare bones interior 3500 either Chevy or GMC and of course with a duramax, but a zillion ranchers can't be wrong about RAM. At least not if you're pulling heavy loads.

All this said, I'm more inclined to get another 77-79 Ford F150 that's been frame-up redone if I don't plan to pull heavy loads. I know how to work on it and no electronics to mess with a person. Not to mention ongoing maintenance costs, those bills can wake the dead.

I have been in F250's for the past 15 years & recently switched to a regular cab Sierra 2500 sle. Its comfortable enough for me but does have quite a bit of wind noise over 50mph. If I could have got a regular cab F250 w/ heated seats I'd of went that route. I found their seats to be a touch more comfortable. The GMC's front end is a softer ride though on the heavier trucks.

I drove a 7.3 Godzilla ambulance late one night a while back for a Texas crew who was here to help out emergency services during Helene. I was thoroughly impressed. Even with stock exhaust it had that push rod V8 rumble that caught my ear. While I couldn't get down on it much cause the Texas guys were getting motion sickness on these curvey mountain roads with me driving, it did have some spunk once we got out on the interstate on our way to the hospital.(Don't do fentanyl btw)

I was like you. It really narrows the pool when you toss out the turbos, hybrids, diesels. I was even worse, as I wanted a rear wheel drive. You’re left with the Chevy 5.3. & 6.2 and the F150 Coyote. I went with the Ford, but could have been just as happy with the Chevy. It came down to the dealership & incentives. Way too much tech in these things, but it really is nice as long as it’s working!

what are some good years for 1/2 ton GM trucks? I cannot stand the newer ones.

Always heard the same about the Chevy's
Approaching 30 years wrenching on junk professionally, I've come to the conclusion that any Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep or however they identify, are second rate. Definitely not discount! However, I rate them above Ford. Whichever the op chose, I hope he doesn't extend thenoil change interval.

Years back a friend got a new Ford, he told me it did not come with a transmition dip stick, I checked and some of the other brands didn't either. Is that still the case or have they replaced the dip stick? He asked ford about checking the fluid and they told him its was to be done by the dealer.

My current truck (a Ram 3500) is eight years old and I'm considering a new truck. Not likely to happen though. Two things I would like to have will never be available (a manual transmission and a real key that doesn't need a damned battery). I'm not planning on doing much cross-country RV pulling in the near future, so I'm not as tied to the diesel as I was. I don't hate the Chevy work trucks. If they are still featuring cylinder deactivation though, they are out. If I'm being honest, I hate all of this overly techy crap. Reckon I won't be getting a new truck any time soon. WH

I got a 2024 Chevy crew cab 3500 4x4 diesel with everything on it but the kitchen sink. And It might be there someplace. 25k miles on it, a lot of that towing. Very quiet, great milage. The most comfortable truck I have owned. The bigger fancier trucks will hold their value a lot better than a half ton.

2019 F250 here, 6.2 gas, with an oil dip stick :)
About 80K on it and no problems, plenty of power for me. Only about 14 mpg though.
Rides a little rough and loud with 35” off road tires but I like it that way

I've always been a chevy guy, but I know too many people that have had big trouble with the cylinder deactivation V8's. Seems like a bad design??

All junk, trash, every single car made is garbage. A good pre cylinder deactivation 5.3 gm truck is a good bet if you spray fluidfilm or something like it in all the body cavities and cab corners plus coat the back side of all the body panels. Keep that oil pump oring changed too. Cut me and I'll bleed blue but I have a lot of disappointment in FOMOCO after '97. Seems like a crap shoot anymore that can really put a hurting on an average working class family when something goes wrong. (Bosch I'm looking at you on your cp4 pumps!).

Bosch cp4- the hand grenade of the diesel fuel system. Got a cp3 on a 03 Ram, 562,000 miles now. My son's cp4 grenaded costing him a $12,500 fuel system repair.

My 2012 truck i do have has the cylinder deactivation. So far no problems at 175k miles on it. I haven't had any real major problems with it other than some electrical issues but got those solved.
I hardly tow anything unless I have to move out of this house I'm in lol.
Being 55 years old this will prolly be the last pickup I buy. I m not one the buys and trades them in a few years. I keep them till they die
