41 Magnum making a comeback?

Ruger/Lipsey’s just announced last week about their new model Bisley flat top stainless chambered in 41 Magnum:

Looks like over a dozen have already sold on GB; however, it seems the smaller dealers are still waiting for them to come through the pipeline.

Seems to be quite cool and attractive revolver in a happy medium caliber (between the 357 and 44 magnum); however, I see a minor issue with this caliber: cost of ammo and lack of selections of jacketed projectiles for reloading. Only a few offer them and usually in expensive box of 100 pieces.

So I’ve contacted Zero Bullets to see if they would consider expanding their line to include bulk 41 caliber projectiles, specifically the common 210 grain jacketed soft point to start with. They already seem to be interested and are asking for feedbacks.

What are your thoughts?

I have been eyeballing the Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .41 Mag for some time now just to add to my collection. Watched one today go for $1250 on GB and if I hadn't just spent my fun money 2 weeks ago for an old Winchester 94 in 32-40 I would have tried to buy it.

Got a couple 41’s and yeah they’re interesting. But I’ve found the cartridge to be a lot closer to a 44 than the 357 in the muzzle blast and recoil department. The 41 bullet is only 19 thousandths smaller diameter than a 44 Mag. Ammo and components are way harder to find. It’s a labor of love to shoot 41’s. Other than the 41 just being a little different, obscure and therefore “cool” honestly the 44 is way more versatile. Full-tilt magnum loads when they’re needed and shoot 44 Special for everything else.

And with all that said - I enjoy the 41!

Id love to have a super redhawk in it. Dont think they ever made it. I have a casull and its alot for deer lol. I was watching 41’s on GB too and they are bringing decent money

Always glad to see new 41Mag handguns. Been a huge fan and user of these since the early 70’s. Never cared for the 44 Mag . Did get side tracked by the 44 Spl with a Talo Flattop and a Lipseys GP100, but the 41 still is the king in my arsenal!

Had two .41s over the years. Nothing really wrong with the cartridge, but it's neither fish nor fowl...Too much to edge out the .357 and not enough to match the .44s. I am glad to see some interest however. I just hate to see a cartridge just forgotten.

Exactly my thought too … I always have felt that 44 magnum/special is overrated and therefore will never own one. It’s actually .429” so why did the person that invented those named them 44 instead of 43? Only logical answer is for marketing reason (read: misleading those less suspecting) and therefore I refuse to support this dishonest behavior in my view.

I never met a revolver that I didn't like. And if someone offered me a Ruger or S&W 41 Magnum, I would gladly accept it.

However, I have never owned one. My logic was quite simple, simple like me :), when I wanted a powerful handgun, I choose the 44 Magnum. When I wanted a moderate power handgun, I choose the 357 / 38 Special handgun. The 41 seemed like gap that didn't need filled.

Like many of my generation, my fascination with the 44 Magnum was prompted by the Dirty Harry movies. When I finally acquired one, the love affair was short lived. Reality did not match my illusions of grandeur.

Even though I was a very experienced revolver shooter (22, 38 and 357 Magnums) and a serious competitive target shooter and handgun varmint hunter, I found the heavy recoil and additional costs of components a burden I didn't need. Also having to maintain an inventory for another caliber was a complication I also didn't need.

True if you are a serious handgun deer hunter, the 44 is far superior to the 357 Magnum but I only ever took one deer with a pistol, and it was with a 357 Magnum. It was more of a "stunt" that a sensible and serious hunting endeavor. The 357 Magnum (varmint / predator hunting) and the 38 Special (target shooting) did everything I wanted and was much more pleasant to shoot. Deer hunting was difficult enough, I wanted all the edge I could get, and a rifle afforded that edge.

I've got a S&W model 57 from years ago. Fine shooter. I need to get it out more... Glad to see .41 active again.
I've had a S&W 4 1/2" barrel .41mag for years. As others have mentioned there is little difference between it and the .44mag. It is easy to load and cast bullets are easily obtained. Maybe a little less recoil than the .44 but not a great difference. It works with the same powders. Use cast and don't bother with jacketed bullets.

seems like jacketed bullets and in some calibers are counter productive
cast yer own control you own destiny and shooting not relying on others, companies, to determine what, when you pursue your passion
self reliance
41 mag isn't going anywhere and has not been gone

I've only loaded copper jacket rounds- expenive but I don't shoot it a lot. I do have four or five speed loaders for it - that's fun to use with it.
