With very few subsonic hollow point options, what’s your favorite hunting round in 22lr? I mainly shoot eley sub hollow points since RWS has been pretty rough to find.
Now that is cool! One of my favorite things to do anymore is squirrel hunt. My favorite ammo was Fiocchi SubSonic HP's which are no longer made. I have tried lots of ammo and decided to get a Niel Waltz HP die but that was almost impossible. I borrowed a friends and didn't like the tolerances so built my own. I have tried a number of different ammos as I want something that is easily found and consistent in production quality.
I have had great luck with a number of ammos but have settled on CCI Blazer. In my testing I have shot a number of sub 1" 5shot groups at 100yds with it, drops the squirrels very quickly. It doesn't always make ammo more accurate but never have I had it hurt accuracy. No more trying to find wat ammo works best in each gun as it shoots great in every rimfire I have tried.
I have also used it on HP ammo such as CCI Mini Mags. It trues up the bullet and improves the hollow point. If you look at the factory ammo sometimes the hp is full of wax and off center. When pushing in the new point of the die stem it also makes the bands of the bullet a consistent size. Winchester is the one brand there is no salvaging. They make garbage rimfire ammo, not what they use to be.

What would be the cost to have you send one of those dies my way? Lol. Thank is really nice. I have a lot of lead round nose that shoot extremely well in my kidd 10/22, but if shots miss their mark on the head, it takes another follow up.One of my favorite things to do anymore is squirrel hunt. Yup,. I'm still shooting and carefully Hoarding Mine for,. Cottontails,. ONLY !Back in the day when I shot Hunter's Small Bore Pistol Silhouette and hunted small game with a 22 rimfire, the Winchester Super X was my go-to round. But that was a long time ago. I haven't seen it on the shelves around here in over 20 years.
We shot Ram targets at 100 yards with 22 rimfire pistols with Super X and it was the preferred ammo of all the top shooters in my area back in the late 70's and mid 80's.Yup,. I'm still shooting and carefully Hoarding Mine for,. Cottontails,. ONLY !
I have a Nice stash from, 1992 that shoots, Sub 1/2 inch group's at 50 Yards with very Few,.. IF, any,. Flyers !
40 gr. Round Nose jobbies, clocking,1,280 FPS ! Ahh, the 1990's, those WERE, the Days, when Winchester was GREAT
I've had good Luck with Newer, Super-X HP's packed Bulk ( 333 round "Brick" bought, a couple of Years back ).
Shot a Sage Rat at, 85 yards with them, average groups from my Green Mtn Barrel, around 5/8" ths @ 50 yds.
CCI Mini Mag H-P's are Next,.. for accuracy
