I bought 40x in 7.62 in 1971 sn 38862b

The 26" barrel was changed to 24" later? My guess. Friend had the 40XB BR in 222 Rem around this time. He had choice of 20 or 26" barrels.
I have the Rangemaster in 27+ bbl " in 243. S2. No Date Code on barrel. late 1970s gun. Both rifles bought new, around 1976.
