A Polish outlook on our 2nd Amendment.

I just listened to an interview with a Polish gun enthusiast. few takes: the population is still suffering the communist hangover when the population were not allowed to own guns, and nowadays they dont see guns as a thing you would think you should want to own. ie: yes I would want to own a set of Swaro binos one day, but why would I ever want to own a gun? Secondly, if you are a legit citizen you will absolutely be given the right to own gun(s) once you jump through all the hoops. And thirdly, no matter what classification of license you have, if you shoot someone in your home or street in self defense of a lethal threat you WILL be arrested and charged with murder or attempted murder. Therefore it appears that owning a gun in Poland is like owning an expensive violin: you take it out of storage, play with it, and when you are done you place it back in its case under lock and key.

Our neighbor to the north could take a lesson from Poland. Their gun laws border on ridiculous, draconian, and just plain stupid. Want to take your .44 Smith into the woods for bear protection or target work? NO! Can't do that.

Ask me why I left Canada back in '75......

psych evaluation, background check, general physical fitness test (eyes, balance, coordination), passed a written gun law test, passed a practical safety, gun handling and accuracy test
first batch of 10 permission slips
register them within 5 working days and I can't do that online

Thanks, but I'll take the USA over Poland.

If I were the head of Poland(my paternal grandparents birth country) I would work to put guns in the hands of every sane citizen. Why? How would you like to share a border with the arsehole Russians and have the history of their colonial takeovers?

I get some of the gun laws that we have today, many are based on fear. But the NFA was just a bunch of crap put together to find a way to employ the government workers who were going to lose their jobs when prohibition went away. It is my understanding that the only reason it passed is the opposition attorney got his dates mixed up and was on vacation. Government will never get smaller, if those that are already working in government have any chance to prevent it.

I think I will also stick with our 2d Amendment rights as opposed to all of this trust in some Federal Government, whether it be Poland or The United States.

The key words are “our rights”, not given to us by the politician of the day but GUARANTEED to us in the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution.

Other Countries, in particular those with Parliamentary Governments, don’t understand the basic concept of our Constitution. It is the Law of the Land, and is not subject to whims and wishes of who happens to be the elected official of the moment.

It has stood the test of time.

This is were common sense comes in the second Amendment is to protect use from the Government and not let them take our rights away! Now tell me this Trump was almost killed Twice, but still protects our second Amendment. If the shoe was on the other foot do you think that would be the case.
That's why I voted TRUMP. And did you Common sense people ever think about why the first and second Amendments are were they are? There one and two for a reason to protect the rest.

agreed...but right now their immediate problem Poland has is trying to keep african migrants from crossing their border. They have a mega border fence in the area they come from patrolled by military and recently, after one of their guards was killed by a makeshift spear lobbed over the fence, they have orders to shoot to kill if they breach the fence. The last fence breach was done by a mob of over 1000 africans.

And yet, I know a dozen Canadians who do so frequently. I know one guy who almost always wears his 357 on his hip when walking the dog. Mind you, in all cases, this is done in areas where meeting another person is highly unlikely but meeting some sort of four legged predator is common. Of course, these people are ignoring the law, so there is that. For a period of time, handgun restrictions were moving in the right direction (under a conservative government, of course) but Trudeau has done what he could to screw it up. Hopefully, we can move more toward common sense in the future. WH

It's great that we are a nation of laws and have a constitution to protect our rights. But just recently the current admiration has ignored all laws concerning immigration and no one had done one thing about laws already passed by congress that are being ignored. What happens when TPTB decide they want to ignore the constitution?

“Our government teaches the whole people by its example. If the
government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it
invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.”
― Louis D. Brandeis
This behavior by governments of all stripes gets more common by the day.
