Edit 1::::::Installing Front Sight base on Marlin 336-1895 ect

Front sight base broke off my RemMar 336 - only one screw in it and no solder. I probably will have to get a new sight base somewhere and would like to fasten it on so it stays put. I see marlin and ruger have/had 2 screws in the Sight base and marble recommends solder with their base with one screw. What is the recommended way i should do it. thanks

EDIT:::::::: got the broken screw pieces and locktite out of the hole and managed to restore the 6-48 threads enough to hold a screw. gonna adjust the length of a screw and clamp the base to barrel with some glue. thanks All

Were you able to get the broken screw out of the hole? If so, one screw with Devcon epoxy steel makes a strong bond. The solder that Marble recommends is silver solder and is really a job for a gunsmith. If you are not into DYI, take it to a gunsmith and go the two screw route. I think solder and screws if overkill.

Be careful with solder on a blued gun. Most of the fluxes will remove bluing almost instantly. This stuff is pretty amazing as well and won't mess up your bluing.

Be careful with solder on a blued gun. Most of the fluxes will remove bluing almost instantly. This stuff is pretty amazing as well and won't mess up your bluing.

I just read the reviews on this stuff, Wow! People are using it to mount scope rails and no screws, Just the glue and some people say it's been holding for years. I'm going to have to get some of this stuff. I wouldn't count on it only, But would also put screws.

If anyone else is going to get it, Don't get this on Amazon or Ebay, I know for sure there is counterfiet red loctite and Blue loctite.

I don't know if this stuff is being counterfeited or not, But I would get it from a reputable dealer. Stuff looks very handy to have around, I wonder how long it's good for after you open it?

I don't know if this stuff is being counterfeited or not, But I would get it from a reputable dealer. Stuff looks very handy to have around, I wonder how long it's good for after you open it?

I'd use the screw too and I think once you open it, shelf life goes to crap..but it's pretty cheap.

havent tried to get screw out yet. it broke off a couple threads depth below surface. i think it was tapped with a #6 . on further inspection sight base seems ok so i may reuse it and drill and tap hole to #8. would like to use 2 screw sight base though. i have some devcon and it sounds like a good idea to use. i like to do my own work if i can and i could solder it but i think id rather not. i will look for a 2 screw sight base. thanks bennett

i will defineately use the screw and prob have to DT it a size larger( 6to8). i will try to find a 2 screw sight base . and will use the glue to. thanks again mike

Going to #8 screw will cause you all kind'a problems, as bad a problem as you have now. Front sight ramps come with the needed screws, use them. It'll look Bubba other wise.

I think so, due to the amount of shock and vibration. Screwed also, devcon or jb might be fine but I wouldn't trust either without a screw, where that's exactly what the black max is designed for.

Recently did a comparison of the spec sheets of both products.
Black Max stacks up ok until temps go higher(+150°F). Then it jumps off a cliff(figuratively speaking).

I have not seen an adhesive which will match low temp solder. The caution about flux is valid and is why some touch-up might be required. Nonetheless, the screw and glue will likely be adequate. WH

If the screw is broken and in the hole, plunge right down the middle of it with a 7/64 4 flute center cutting endmill. when you reach bottom, the remainder screw will most likely jump out and up the cutter. If not, its fairly easy to pick it out or unscrew it with a small torx bit.
Re tap the hole with the right tap (6-48??) and use the black max. Its the same stuff used to hold on glue on ribs. If you apply it right (clean, no oil! ) it wont come off
