Vibrate powder measure?

Has anyone here or heard of anyone using a small vibrater attached to the outside of a powder measure tube.
I would think it would help settle powder.

Would be for Dillon presses.

So... long ago and far away, back when I was first shooting Service Rifle, people were trying to figure out how to get the Dillon APM to throw powders like Varget and RL-15 half-ways consistently (8208XBR didn't exist yet). Various tricks were tried - polishing, dry lube for the slide, etc. etc.

One fellow came up with strapping a fish aquarium pump to the under/in side of the Dillon Strong Mount. Basically the very light vibration of the pump seemed to make the APM be more consistent.

The funny part was... there was that one guy... who said he'd gotten the same effect, in a somewhat different way. Basically he'd duct-taped a vibrator to the frame and set it on low. Never did get a solid answer as to *how* or *why* exactly he happened to have one of those on hand... ;)

Maybe he was spending a little too much time at the range?

Vibrating the drop tube is a trick that some short range Benchrest shooters use to increase the holding powder capacity of there brass (typically 6ppc) to allow effective bullet seating and prevent hydraulic changes to the overall seating length. The vibration itself is intended to shake the brass at the bottom of the drop tube, which results in the settling of the powder.

I don’t use the technique. I just slowly pour the powder out of the pan into the drop tube top funnel.

Polishing the inside of the Dillon measure and all the sliding parts makes throws much more consistent. And the failsafe rod clunking each throw also helps.

I also replaced the plastic hopper with DramWorks pyrex to reduce static.

Some of you may remember Richard Watson from Arkansas, a long-time benchrest shooter. Richard was always coming up with new and innovative ideas with reloading in mind. He mounted a case head holder on a vibrating toothbrush and turned it on when throwing a charge into the case. He did something to slow it down as he said it would empty the case on high speed. I miss Richard!

Years ago Jerry Hensler rigged up a little vibrating gizmo on his powder measure for the same reason @Leeinmichigan mentioned.. I think he was going to try and market it but then quit Centerfire and took up Rimfire.

The steel stud sticking out of the top of my old Lyman 1500 turbo tumbler works dandy.
Throw the charge and just touch the case head to the threaded rod.

maybe use a hose clamp to a fix it to the dispenser ? not something I would do ,I'm not the big of a hurry

Just because this may not pertain to your reloading program does not mean it does not exist. Benchrest shooters by nature try any avenue possible to find an advantage. Most of the pains a precision shooter goes through for a minute amount of improvement the average shooter will never comprehend or be able to justify.
I am just a tad over an "average the shooter" so I guess it is a solution for a problem that exists, at least for some. ;)
