RCBS Rock Chucker 2 date?

i have no idea if mine is a RC 2 or not, but it looks like the ones pictured but it has a black primer catcher that is not near as nice as the one on yours with the hose. Mine had a plastic strap to hold it on to the press that was lost or broken. It now has a tiny little bungee cord that goes all the way around the tray to hold ir in place. The catcher on yours is it from RCBS or an after market?

Same as Dhagerty40, bought mine new as well - 1989. No number or stamping on/near the bushing - couple pits (so to speak in the hammerite) from use.

Has RCBS ever sold anything as 'factory second'?
Well, I stand corrected... Went out and looked a little more... Found a "0" stamped underneath the black die ring after removing it from the press. Also found "AB1" cast in the left side of the base.

Why does a date code or year stamp matter? Has Every town gun safety or the ATF weaponized them like Hamas pagers? Mine is just a big piece of green cast iron that does its job very well and nothing else.

It doesn’t matter per say but it’s neat to know the history on them.

I love them don't get me wrong, I guess what i was asking for is like a date to look for. Ya know like everybody wants a pre 64 Winchester. Is there a date where they are better than before or after? I do like that primer catcher. I hate finding a lost primer barefooted.

Mr RCII was bought in the early to mid 80's. It has not other markings on it. No 82 or whatever on the bushing, as shown in the 2nd photo.
My primer catcher is the same color as yours. Sure works neat.

How about a pre-50 ? My one Winchester 94 was bought in 1949 at a gun store. Still use it do this date, on occasion for deer/coyote hunts.

I know that this topic has been beaten to death over the years. However, information about the RCBS RC2 is scarce, often wrong, and always incomplete. I have an RC2 with an "S" stamped under the die bushing. I have no idea what that means. Two messages and 1 phone call to RCBS yielded 3 entirely different, screwy answers. So, since the factory doesn't know, what say you? Tell me what you know about this marking. Please disregard the date stamps on dies in this discussion. They may not apply. Thanks.
Remember, the date, or code stamp can be hidden underneath the die bushing completely or partially. You may have to unscrew the die bushing in order to tell. Thanks for your interest.

My RC2 is not marked with a number, it is marked with a letter S. I’d like to know what the S stands for. Is it the year or some other designation? If year, which one?

In the past, this was a date code to represent date of manufacturer on many models. Now, I have no idea.
Bought mine new as a package deal from Midway in 1986 or 1987, "RCII" is cast right into the housing just like jcm800's picture above so no question what it is. Don't really understand significance of what year an RCII was made.

Original RC's were not all the same. For example, a snap ring vs nut securing handle end of the linkage. The nut version was supposedly the "best", 4 or 5yrs ago I bought very nice original RC with flat, light green krinkle paint and nut on the linkage. That one I'd be interested in knowing year made but don't have a wrench big enough to span the nut.

I think one thing we can all pretty much agree on is that in general the quality of most items is not getting better. All products seem to have a point at which the fit and finish reached a peak and obviously those are items we seek. The press that jcm800 posted a pic of was my original press and even I can see it has more fit and finish to it than one of the new current production presses.

I got mine in 1966. Still cooking. Tommy Mc

Is there a trick to removing the die bushing? I have tried every tool I have (for the job) and have never been able to remove it.

I added x2 Turban presses, put a nice red shop rag over my !972 rock chucker so it won't get cold or loney,
Like my 419 as a novelty, the Forster presses are simply the best for the money hands down.
Love my dedicated Redding presses always were always gonna be better than RCBS.
There's more of course but don't want to overload the continuum.
Carry on,,,,,
