Chamber chillers

So noticed some of these older guns I like to play with seem to be a little finicky when the barrels get hot...well least a lil more so then modern stuff. Was thinking of getting one of those little chamber chiller deals . The look cheap enough to buy or build. Anyone happen to have messed with one and see any noticeable improvements?

Since I do all my shooting here in Arizona, a barrel cooler really helps with saving time on the range when ambient temperatures are high. AND . . . it helps with extending barrel life as I try to keep the temperature limit to 122°F, having the cooler cool down the barrel from there.

Most of the "chamber chillers" are small with low air flow, and . . . they tend to be quite noisy due to the small fan and motor they use. I found one that deliver more air volume down the barrel, which speeds up the cooling time and it's a lot quieter:

I think it was @F Class John who turned me on to these.



Mini inflatable air pump. Pumps a lot of air. I can use it for about 4 hours in-between strings before it needs to be recharged. Comes with multiple adapters and one of them mates right to my possum hollow bore guide. Attach the pump to the bore guide and insert into the chamber and you have tons of air exchange for $17.99



I lost my bore guide for a short time and it works just as well with flexible tubing from the hardware store.



I keep two of them at the range with me. I'll get to the range at 11am and leave at 6pm and one will have the battery depleted and the other will have hardly any loss on its battery.



They take about an hour to recharge.

Amazon has tons of small inflators that you can use to make your own barrel cooler.

I have tried or been around most of the little blowers, and none of them put out as much air as this one. Uses Dewalt batteries, if you look you can find some that use other batteries. I went to the hardware store, and got a couple sizes of clear plastic tubing to stem down from the nozzle to the chamber.

Being ever frugal, I bought a $6.99 rechargeable "stroller fan" that I set up on a bench and it blows cool air thru my suppressors and out the end of the barrel. It cost almost nothing and I can cool two rifles down at a time, four if they're not suppressed!

I had that exact model of pump and it worked wonderfully. Totally quit working in a month or so. But it did in fact work really well.
