Honda water pump and generator engines

I have owned quite a few Honda EU 1,000s, 2,000s and a 3,000 EU. Recently I borrowed a Honda WX10 1" trash pump from a friend. After irrigating my food plots for 3 days of 3 hrs per day the engine quit. So now I need to replace the engine. The engine is a GX25 25cc. The Honda dealers demand I toss it and buy a new pump and all at $500. But I know the motors alone are very reasonable if I can find a dealer that will sell one.
When I bought my 3000 EU generator 15 years ago it was like new with a blown motor. After days of searching I did find one for $250 delivered from a dealer in GA. This worked out well as I had less then $00 in what is now a $3,000 generator.
I have seen some GX25 engines that are sold as weed eater engines but I am not 100% sure it will fit my water pump.
Any ideas?

Not sure about that particular engine but some Hondas have a timing belt. I had one break on a 5hp Honda and I just replaced the belt.

I would buy your friend a new pump, that is what I would expect if it was mine. Fix the old one for yourself if you want one.

Oddly the Honda dealers are not allowed to sell the engine only.
I like Honda equipment but this is BS. My blood pressure get slightly elevated when dealer after dealer tells me to just buy a whole new pump.

First thing I thought of, too, lol!

Engine noise, low power and sounds and feels different when I pull it over. I have not checked the compression. Could be a stuck valve or bent rod also I suppose

So I just got a call back from the 3ed Honda dealer. They said the same thing the first two said "Honda does not offer a replacement motor for that pump they recommend buying a new pump". Which is BS, Honda is only into sales and not service.

There's probably an adapter plate to mount the motor to the engine and you should be able to swap it from one motor to the other, thats probably the only difference. IDK how handy you are or iff you have machine tools, but could you adapt another motor from a different manufacturer?
