Improving the precision of an AR

When shooting off a bench,do you use a front rest and special forend or bipods.
Any special bench technique that produce the best results ?.

I'm not a AR guy. But I couldn't resist a AR Les Baer Custom in .204.
It has shot some small 3 shot groups with some 32 gr dog town ammo.
I have some custom 40 gr ordered and some 39 serria on hand.
It's hard to hold steady in my bags set up.
I either need a bipod or forend adapter for bags.

Thanks for the info.
Hal

I have best results with the frontvrest back near the receiver, yes. Otherwise, the weight of the rifle loads the joint between bbl and upper. Stock design plays a role but most need some amount of hold, which induces inconsistency in the amount of pressure transmitted to that joint. Again...yes.

When I'm doing load development I use my Seb NEO with a 3" benchrest adapter connected to the ARCA on bottom of my handguard and a protector rear bag.

Proper gas block clearance is important. Otherwise they touch on recoil and cause flyers... thats why I went 100% to Geissele super low profile SS fixed gas blocks and Rubber City BCGs with their adjustable gas key.

I switch back an forth depending on the game. IBS/UBR type targets
I put a 4 inch wide front rider on it and set it in my T-Rex. Once I'm
close, I finish finding center with a squeeze bag. And that's where it
gets tricky. I run my squeeze bag under the pistol grip. Works for me !!

Padom.....Nice rider.....One of these day's I'll finish mine. It's just not
ready for the public eye, and it's lowering capability. Had to put it on
the back burner for more important things.

I would suggest you shoot a couple matches with the equipment you have. And if you decide the game is what you want to participate in then build. I`ve found that over the years it`s better to ease in, than spend, and be disappointed. Jeff

Thanks padom. Ordered an adjustable gas key.
A couple AR hand guards had to be modified for an adjustable gas block. This won't be as easy to adjust (BCA side charger) but I usually shoot the same load, over and over.

The adjustable gas key is so fast and easy to tune. Screw the adjust screw all the way in, then back it out 1 full turn. Shoot 1rd loaded in mag and make sure it locks back. If it doesn't, open 1/4- turn at a time firing 1rd in mag each time until it does. Once it's locking back on mag, I fire 25rd with 3rd in the mag at a time making sure it's locking back..

Takes a few minutes to tune and your done. No trying to get an Allen down in handguard, no carbon locked gas block adjustment screw....

Any reason a Seekins IMRT upper would not mate properly with a MEGA AR15 billet GTR-3 ambi lower? (Which I already have and I shoot left handed.)

Seekins IMRT upper
Interesting idea.
While they have made the barrel 'truly' [the upper does hold the barrel, so not 100% completely free floated] free floated, they also put on a big lever [the handguard] to flex the upper.
If the handguard is just rested on something, I'm guessing it won't flex the upper. But using a sling I'm thinking it's going to flex something in the upper.

Here's my Seekins IRMT-3 upper and Seekins lower WOA 20" Bartlein build..

And here is the IRMT-3 upper taken off the above AR and put on one of my MEGA Billet ambi lowers....fits nicely.

Thanks @padom ! That is great!

I have a 5.56 to shoot for now which is good enough to get me started.

There is one match yet this year and then they take a break for the winter. This match is new this year. I have talked with the organizers. They have both purchased new rifles specifically for this match so I expect them to continue next year and beyond.

Ive been testing this new 6 ARC upper build the past few weeks with a Craddock RTR 22" +1 Gas barrel I bought during their Labor Day Sale. Its been a hammer so far with 85 SMK's and 87 VMAX's.

I built it to shoot the 80s and 90s fast. I didn't have any interest in shooting the 100gr+ bullets. Out to 700yd this combo has been an absolute laser. Couldn't be happier.
