Fired case necks

I have some fired 22 PPC cases----necks turned for .002" clearance.

Some of these necks won't allow a bullet to be put in the case by hand.

Is this .002" clearance considered to be adequate ?

That's a pretty common clearance in a benchrest rifle. If the brass is new, only a few firings, it's not unusual to have that happen. After they are fired more, the bullet should slip in the fired cases.

Often it is just the very end of the neck that will not let the fired case accept a bullet.

.002 loaded round clearance should be just right in your 22.

No reason to think they have to go in the case by hand. When guys use a pressure guage on their seater it can take 10-20 lbs force or more to seat bullets (Erik Cortina's video). I assume your talking about a sized case, not a fired one. some guys think a bullet hould fall into the neck of a fired case. I don't know where they get these ideas. 0.002" clearance to the chamber is a must.

It's plenty of clearance, if actual.
What do neck ODs measure before and after firing?

The reamer print calls for a neck OD of .243"-----this has not been validated.

I'm going back to recheck if my numbers are good.

This .002" to .003" has been standard for me for a long time but I've never
been concerned about putting a bullet into a case before resizing.

I've never seen a reamer print spec a loaded round neck od before. If the print says .243 neck, that's very likely the chamber dimension. So your loaded round should measure .2410 to give .002 clearance.

Mike is so very right-----must've had my head up and locked when I typed some of this.

Correction:
The reamer print calls for .243" chamber neck ID.
If I turned the neck correctly, the loaded case neck should be .241" OD
for .002" clearance.
