banned hunting ammo

I don't see it happening for a while. I see it being banned for target shooting on public land too. I live in the desert and well established spots get crazy amounts of lead. CA is just nuts. First state to ban ALL trapping, think they banned bobcat hunting, banned coyote contests, banned hounds for bears, background checks for ammo, no mail order ammo Tried to ban lead fishing tackle, not sure of that passed. Removing hundreds of water guzzlers from public land so the birds will die off and nobody will have a reason to go out there. Industrialization of our deserts for green energy is no problem though....

Just so people get a clear picture, I'd like to present a different side of CA. It is true that in and around the Bay Area and other large cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, these are the areas that get hit hardest for environmental issues.

I rent a piece of land I've been building a log home shell on, which is located in Coyote Valley, this is on the border of San Jose and Morgan Hill. There are massive amounts of 'yotes, I have seen them at dusk in packs of 6-8 of them, and they will eat rabbits and leave the ears, for some reason they never eat the ears, must be too low of meat/hair ratio or something...

I previously belonged to and RSO'd at the pistol range on 10th Street in San Jose, Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club managed it, and we also shot once a month at Metcalf, across the freeway from where my yard is in Coyote Valley. First the Parks and Regulations closed the 10th Street range. That pooched the club and I don't shoot in the area anymore. Now Coyote Sporting Clays is under attack and so is Metcalf by the environmentalist. This is the bad part of CA, for certain.

I own land in Kelseyville, which is in Lake County. This is about 3 hours from Santa Clara. There is no smog requirement in Lake County as they have clean air. There is a limit, but deer tags are sold over the counter until they meet a large quota since the fires. The local range is owned by the Sheriff, and the local club charges only $50/year and provides a card that opens the gate, available from sunset to 30 minutes after sunset. Everyone I have met is pro hunting and pro fishing, they are just outdoors type people.

This is like a different world than the Bay Area. Yet I worry about being stuck in CA...SF, Oakland and San Jose...all the downtowns are $#!T#O!E$. SF and Oakland are the worst, but even San Jose doesn't prosecute crime up to $950, so many of the businesses have either left or are leaving.

Sometimes I have driven to my property and I just ponder...how can 2 places in CA be so different??? It's very puzzling...I was born here and will most likely die here...just like my parents...maybe my kids will also. So yeah, CA is a real $#!T#O!E in some areas, but there is some amazing hunting and awesome views in this state, that should not be overlooked.

Thats the whole problem. I used to live in Bishop and in Eureka. I have been everywhere from alturas to Mexico. It has some of the best fishing and hunting in America. The problem is the whack jobs in the city make the rules and it has become sooooo over crowded and with people who I don't like. I hope I never go to CA again. Nothing like the freedom of ARs, lead, and whores in NV!

how can 2 places in CA be so different?
It's good that they are different. I have read that the loonies live in and around the big cities. I ask myself another question - how can anyone with a sane mind stand living in those areas? And another question, how do lunatics get in control like they have, not only in CA, but other progressive states?

As a side note, when switching to steel or other non toxic shot, use at least one size looser choke than you use on lead. The non toxic are harder, and will pattern much better with the looser choke.

I love Bishop, and have a fond memory driving with a couple friends up 395 headed to Bishop from Mono Lake (a cool place in itself). I had the top off my 911 and was going 135mph and I could steer with 2 fingers, I crap you not...the Porsches get corner balanced so are very nice driving. My 911 is supposed to go 145, so I felt cheated, but made it home alive! LOL I don't know how we didn't get any tickets that run...

Agreed, my wife won't go to SF alone anymore. The last time we were there, people were shooting heroin in the financial district, and they were p!$$ing and $#!TTing all over the streets, one guy was passed out with his penis hanging out of his pants...to make matters worse they charged us $30 to park and wouldn't let my wife use the restroom...luckily the Japanese counsel had one she could use. To say SF is a $#!T#O!E is an understatement. Crime is rampant in SF. How can it be? I always considered SF to be one of the most beautiful cities in America, now a literal $#!T#O!E...I better stop now...

I'm not saying Lake County is perfect, but if you're a shooter, they have been pro-issue for CCW for years, the Sheriff sponsor the local rifle club, and they have a pistol range there also...and they shoot ELR in Upper Lake, starting at 2000 yards and go to 3000 and 3500 if someone gets a hit at one of those ranges.

Some of the best largemouth bass fishing in NA. Recently a lot of 10-15 lbers being yanked out of the lake. Catfish are big also...in general the lake is NOT clear...but it has fish in it...I have tons of wildlife around my property...deers, wild turkeys, red fox, eagles, turkey vultures, snakes, squirrels, etc...I've even seen a heron and once a wood pecker.

If anyone lives in CA don't vote for Captain Hairdo, he's destroying this state...

If I'm not mistaken there was a petition to put on the ballot for Northern California to become it's own jurisdiction. The Yes California campaign did not last long. Currently residing in Solano County btw. Just in case one wondered. NC did not stand for North Carolina. Lol. I had family in Oakland then Tracy. Also [San] Diego. There is a need to thin out herds of certain animals or the ecosystem will go kersplat. PETA makes things difficult even when it is ethical. (Ever since the Raiders went to Las Vegas and the Chargers moved to L.A....well that would be getting off track. Ha).

As @ISS mentions, look up the State of Jefferson. Lake County was going to be the southern most County included in that, I still have my hopes, but I don't think it will happen. It should happen, as there are 55 electoral votes in this State, the highest of any State. Texas is the next largest with 40, but in all honestly with all the Californians bailing to Austin, Texas is bound to get more electoral votes in the future...LOL

Hunting is a mixed bag, because most of the Counties surrounding the SF Bay don't allow hunting, and even in A zone, where my property is located, southern A zone doesn't allow Bear hunting anymore, and in the northern part of A zone it is allowed. A zone is a huge hunting zone, possibly the largest in CA.

I only hope that more people felt like Don Dunlap and stayed out of CA, we don't need or want any of you folks. There are plenty of great places, and I hope that this State will turn around one day, but if you're not from here please don't come.

BTW, @n.c.outlaw2024 if you feel like an outlaw, you must feel better as of recent. I went to fetch a piece of equipment and drove through Solano county. There is a fair amount of "Farmers for Trump" signs along the road. Just like everything else, as you move out of the inner city, people start getting more conservative. Captain Hairdo lives in Fairfield, so everyone is not good. Lake County is quite a different type of California, IMO. There are a lot of places around Shasta I like also. I was recently pondering buying a piece of land just to hunt on.

Won't be long before no one can hunt with leaded ammunition.
I've heard of rifle ranges changing to lead free, following a lot of pistol ranges doing so. That will be the end as we know it. I don't mind hunting with lead free as there are good alternatives. for target shooting - that is unimaginable to me.

A heavy 12 ga 2 3\4" load of #4 steel for general upland. Tungsten and bismuth are maybe worth it for pheasant, but I am not willing to pay that for rabbits and quail.

Even better, move to a free state. I left CA primarily cuz the lead ammo ban and no mail order ammo.
Before the "ban" took effect, the UPS driver asked me "what the hell is going on - is there something I should know?" as he delivered my ammo. He said his truck had been full of ammo for weeks.
