6GT - New Barrel - 105 vs 107s

In my 6GTs I've always run the 107 SMKs. They are cheap, readily available, and have always shot well. Well, this new barrel just didn't like them. I couldn't give up, I kept trying to make them shoot and always came up short. It was around 3/4 MOA at best, it was always 1 flier. I switched to the Berger 105 Hybrid and this is the result. This is 2 different charge weights, left side and right side. No seating depth testing, I just put them .015" off the lands.

This is off a bipod and an uncomfortable table. 3 shots each.

Lesson learned, my stubbornness can't make a bad combination work.

Have you tried "Jamming", the 107 SMK's ?
It made a World of Difference for Me, By,.. LIGHTLY "Jamming", the Sierra's !
Went from, High 3's, 4's and, around1/2 MOA,. Down into, the LOW 2's,. in My 6XC.
I'm usually,,.. "BugHoling" them, Now !

No, I'm not usually a jammer.

I use the bolt drop test, without the firing pin, to test the touch. I find the start of light resistance. How much should I jam?

A Light "Jam" of about, .015 worth of Rifling Marks, around the Bullet,. "Hammers" for, Me in my 6 XC.
I went back and Read, a few OLD Posts on Here using, the Search feature, to Find, the Best,.. Jump / Jam for the 107 SMK.
I use about, 3/4 of a Grain, OFF, Max of,. StaBall 65, Powder to get down into, the Low 2's group, in my 10 Pound, Lt Varmint class, Rifle. With the Bullet, .020 to .050 "Off" Jam, I got group's, in the 4's to 1/2 MOA !

Are you sorting the 107s ? Maybe for consistent base to ojive measurements?
NO, I Buy several Boxes at, a Time all, SAME Lot #, then go,.. "Work Up",.. a Load.
My Rifle, is NOT, a Custom $10,000 Bench Rest, Rifle so, NO,. NEED for, Me as a just, an informal, Steel Plate,.. Ringer. And I probably couldn't shoot Well enough to,. Get into, the 1's anyway.
5 Shot's, Ctr Ctr, in .214, is the Best with, this Load, on a 28 Degree, NO, wind, Day.
Total Rifle Build Cost about, $ 2,700. Scoped with, H-S Precision Stock, Criterion Med Hvy, Sporter Bbl, Rem 700 SS Action, and a Jewell, BR Trigger set @ just under, 1 Pound.
I Fitted the Barrel, on Norma 6 XC, Unfired, New Brass and TIGHT, on the "Go" Gage.
I Use Forster Dies with, .0015 to .002 neck tension.

It don't take long to go through 100 at a time
When you find say 5 out of 20 that has say 5 thou,
Long or short its like those will be seated different. This is true more so if you're jumping. Or Is say it shows up on target more
But I get what you're saying about shooting steel and all.

I usually Buy, 300 Minimum Bullets at, a Time.
I have found very Little Variance from,.. Hornady's,. ELD-M's, ELD-X's, Bergers and, most Sierra's.
Nosler AccuBonds, on the other Hand, from, Box to Box,.. .020 !
Upon opening, every Box of, 50,.. I HAD to Adjust my COAL'S, on my .270 WSM's, Elk Load's.
Called Nosler Tech one Day after finding "this out" and they Said, "We allow up to, .025 Per Every machine, Set Up",.. YIKES ! After that News,.. I quickly Sold, All, my AccuBond's !
Berger's, 140 grain, Classic Hunters, "Get it Done,. Better" for Me, anyway ! ( impressive, DRT Kills, on Elk )

The inside "Form" of, the Seating Stem, "Controls" the COAL, so I, DON'T Worry much about, 005 on bullet oal.
AGAIN, I don't HAVE, a $10,000 Bench Rest Rifle, NOR could I "shoot" group's,.. in the 0's to 1's,. anyway.
And with, the Wind and varying Temp's, in the Idaho Desert, Where I shoot, .003 to .005 Bullet oal, is,..
a MOOT Point.
Coyotes out to 750 yds and Sage Rats out to, 300 Yards, that's "what",.. I WANT from, my 6 XC.
