When a good friend passed a couple of years ago, I purchased all of his rifles, as he had some lovely early BSA's in good condition and I was born in the Birmingham area...no, not one Creedmoor, but hang on...I sold off a couple, including a Schultz and Larsen Legacy, that were of no interest and also planned to sell off an RPR in the dreaded 6.5. There were some ammo and cases with it, and I was weak,,, ,I admit to succumbing to the temptation, and took it to the range. At night, you understand - I didn't want anyone seeing me, I was so embarrassed - a man of my age with an RPR AND in 6.5 (sorry, I just can't say the name again) The addiction took hold, and I would take it out in public, sneaking off a few shots at the club after the matches had finished. The obsession became extreme, purchasing Redding S dies, a Wilson seater, pound after pound of H4350, 6.5 Staball, Reloader 17., pound after pound of H2213SC to find the secret load...all to no avail....I just couldn't clean the 1000 yd target. There were bullets, thousands of bullets. Lapua's share price went up 5 points.
It came to me in a dream..."Build an F-class open gun." Build an F-class open gun" The voice went round and round. n a moment of clarity. I decided to build a 6.5x47, but the voices continued...Creedmoor,,, Creedmoor. - You have the dies! I capitulated, no longer able to quiet the thoughts....My gunsmith just could not control his laughter, but eventually agreed to the build. I believe that he took precautions, wearing several pairs of gloves, a face mask and respirator and had a Rabbi sitting in his office, as a last resort. I called him up "Can you make it a 6.5 Lapua?" It was too late - the chamber had been cut and the Rabbi had been committed to an asylum, and could not return, fearing for his sanity. The smith now refuses to do anything to a rifle under 7mm and is working on a project to convert Anschutz rimfire match rifles to Sherman Short.
oh, the third one - it's Tikka UPR and I got it cheap. Nice stock. I will probably re-.barrel it
i still have the RPR. It refuses to be sold and has threatened my family. It insists that it is still under warranty and screams "loser "when I take a 308 to the range.
