Please bare with me, Big bore rifles are a little out of my realm here. I am a simple Elk hunting guide from Montana so I will do my Best to answer any and all questions anyone may have on this listing. I purchased an estate of an older gentleman which included these items. So I don’t have their history. I was not able to get the rifle that this ammo and brass would fit as it was already spoken for. So here we go.
39 unfired RMC 577-500 cases $400 shipped

40 unfired Bell 577 base NE cases necked down to 500. ( I don’t know if the can be sized back up to a standard 577NE without damaging them). $410shipped

RCBS 3 die set for 577-500 3-1/8. Including 577 shell Holder $400 shipped

11 loaded Kynoch rounds head stamped 577-500. $230 shipped

5 fired Bell cases stamped 577 base NE $50 shipped.

I shot a Hunter Bench Rest Match about thirty-five years ago with a wildcat 550 Gibbs just to be ornery. 750gr bullets at 2250fps or so. I did not win, but neither did the guys for two benches either side of me.
This would be tons of fun to build on a Borchardt or High Wall. Just a little too much $$$$ for a fun gun.

I knew a PH in Africa who had a double in one if these. It weighed at least 16-18 lbs. He was built like a linebacker and could carry it. I only weighed 170 and could hardly.hold it in a shooting position. He offered to let me shoot it for $17/round but I declined since I wanted to finish the.hunt uninjured.

hey "w", Ken Green let me shoot his Ken Owens Four Bore double rifle one summer. It was $50 bucks a shot. I shot it twice, my brain just could not get around the recoil the first shot. I did hit a six inch bullseye target at 25 yards both shots. I impressed Ken enough he gave me the empties. I still have them about 35 years later, sitting on the shelf here. I was going to make salt and pepper shakers out of them.

What is the base diameter of the brass? I have an extra Model 1885 Winchester sitting in the corner. Wonder if it might fit...?

I am old and forgetful but I think Win offered a .50 something in th Highwall.

Yes, they did. The Trapdoor 50-70 cartridge, and iirc, the Model 1886 lever rifle cartridge 50-90 Winchester.

I'm thinking this bad boy might be a bit chubbier.

I can't imagine shooting something with 200 ft lbs of recoil once, let alone twice.. Can you tell us what it was like?

Stay off the bench. These rifles were designed to shoot Elephants at ten feet to maybe ten yards. It rolls you back a couple steps and the muzzle is pointing skyward. Buggy whip! It sounds crazy, but you really have to shoot that second barrel just to feel it properly. And, no, I did not want to shoot a third round that day.

I have a ten bore double SxS these days that weighs about twelve pounds empty. I just shoot cast 700gr with 240gr of black powder at about 1400fps these days.

There is an irresistable challenge to trying to control the uncontrollable...
