You ever want something, and when an option comes .... It's just not QUITE what you wanted? But it's about the only option you have so you just work with it ?:D seems to happen to me with firearms alot . Either what I want is too expensive, brass is non existent, be being short the current offering won't fit me so on and so forth.
Welp last two years or so been really wanting a bolt action fn 5.7. Think it's a neat lil round. Been hoping someone would come out with a sub $500 lil bolt gun. Nothing too fancy. Heck I'd if be happy with a single shot honestly as long as it was accurate. Welp low and behold the other day I'm on YouTube and come across this

It's one of those lil back pack deals ... Been showing folks and everyone been talking about how back guns are XYZ and their really confused when I tell them I have no interest in using it was a pack gun just tell them it's the only bolt action 5.7 I know of and with the price point think I can modd it a little to suit me :D

Wouldn't be the first time I've done something like this , anyone else end up in these type situations?

Wonder if you contacted Amscor/Rock Island Armory, who has the 5.7 has something you would like for the youngun ? Just a thought.

Rock Island? 5.7 ? Think your possibly thinking of their .22 TCM? They don't have any offering in 5.7 as far as I'm aware or from what their site shows

Guys on this forum and many other forums build rifles every day. You may not be able to get a prefit barrel but someone will be willing to chamber one in 5.7-28. It may well be an excellent choice for a varmint rifle / trapper gun. Only the building and shooting of one will tell. Maybe a call to Savage to ask if they ever built any and know if any exist in dealers stocks. Good luck finding one or building one.

Contender and a Bullberry barrel. Pistol, rifle, or SBR. I have seen one or two on Ebay.

In your original post you said you would even be happy with a single shot and with careful shopping you will come in just over your price. You will have a test bed for anything you dream up.

They do sell uppers for your AR in that caliber.
Yeah I've seen them and only one really sand out to me and that's the ccmg conversion..... But since I'm currently dealing with this .22 TCM blow back and kinda wanting to break my skull against the wall .... Idk though think it's a radial delay blow back and this might be different?
Anyhow , still just want a cheap lil bolt action

Actually been really excited ever since I heard contenders are coming back ! Definitely going to be getting one ! Think my first project when I finally get my lathe ( when ever that is) will be trying to make a contender barrel from a blank... Either for one of those or one of the dog crap handi rifles in my collection

Yeah and I really wish some of these guys lived near me lol, well I'd probably get a restraining order after a while with how much I'd irritate them though :D

I wanted a 5.7 rifle also, then after a little research I realized the cartridge design and resulting effects on brass made it seem like too much of a problem. In addition, there is a problem with the CMMG, that makes it impractical for me - the magazine is located over the barrel, so there's no room to mount a scope with out making it impossible to remove and attach the magazine.

I also posted a link on your 22 TCM blow back thread - it appears that the direct impingement guns can be made to work fine with the selection of the right magazine.

I really applaud what you are doing and I hope you succeed. But please use a good helmet - I'm afraid you're going to hurt your head.
