I found brass and loaded ammunition on two sites, and CH4D had dies in stock. I am going with a 26" medium sporter barrel on one of my commercial Mauser actions. Yeah, the engraved one.

Consider 6.5 prc. Great performer and I think the round would have no issues in your long action mag. May even look at the 300 prc. These rounda are reallly showing some great performance.

I’ll play along in case he hasn’t decided on caliber in 13 years. Go with a 6.5 Sherman. Mine maxed out with a 140 Berger and a 28” Hart at 3339 fps.

If the 25-06 is a great round (and it most certainly is), then the 25-06AI is even better!

(And whether the OP is still around is irrelevant - this info is good for anyone building a custom rifle)

6.5x284 - will fit short action, but you won't be prevented from seating bullets long.

I believe you will have considerable trouble trying to seat long bullets in a short action of this caliber which is why I went with the 65 284 Norma and a long action receiver

I agree, but since he has a long action, why not 7 PRC?

I think the 6.5 PRC is less recoil and a good round, certainly using a long action for it is not the end of the world, but 7 PRC was made for a long action. I haven't shot either 7 PRC or 300 PRC, but imagine they have a pretty good kick.

I think it makes more sense to use a short action for 6.5 PRC, but that's only one person's opinion.

Go with 10mm CM mag Improved.

18 years ago or 100 years ago the 30-06 is the most versatile cartridge ever made. The 171/2 shoulder angle is much easier to deal with. Not saying the 35 degree angle is a problem but for me the 17 1/2 is better in a long action. Neck in down or neck it up, it works.
