Battery fan for barrel mirage in F Class

Battery powered fans have not been allowed at any NRA sanctioned F- Class match I have attended. They were recently used at the V2 Finale because that is not an NRA sanctioned match.
Yes they did allow this year ,but ONLY blowing on the shooter NOT the barrel! F Class John made a comment about it specifically on one of the videos.

I just bring a servant to build an overhead cloth punkah style fan which he then moves with a series of ropes while standing behind the firing line. So that I may enjoy both a pleasant downward breeze and no mirage from barrel heat. Clearly this solution is as the NRA intended, with the "no electronics" on the firing line rule, they all but state their mutual enthusiasm of human servant powered fans. I suppose a long stick with a palm frond tied to it would work in a pinch.

Keep dreaming. The committee meets once a year. In between, you get what you get from whoever answers the phone/email at the Tournament Competitions department.
Yes, I had called the NRA for a question and got an automated "leave a message, we'll get back to you".
several weeks later ........nothing. But they do notify me about good deals to join the NRA. Yes, the one I've been a life member of for many years. Oh, and I have forgotten the question I asked them. It's been a long time since I asked.

Hey All,
I've been out of F Class shooting for a few years, but am looking to get back into it. I have looked all over this set and have yet to see a definite answer as to whether battery powered fans are allowed at F Class matches with the intentions of blowing across the barrel to help with barrel heat mirage? When I quit shooting, most everyone used a mirage shield but I wasn't sure if this was still the case or not?
Thanks
At most matches, the Match Director (MD) has a lot of discretion in making decisions. A few people at my home range use a fan for personal comfort, not to cool the barrel. When I'm helping or acting as the MD, I allow this too. However, if someone using a fan ties or sets a national record, it could create issues and lead to a disappointing outcome.

If I thought I was close to breaking a club or NRA record, I’d make sure there were no doubts about following the rules.

If you’re not aiming to win your class, the match, or break a record, feel free to bring a fan. Just check with the MD when you sign in and follow their decision. Enjoy the match!

Alternatively, a mirage shield is inexpensive, works well, and won't raise any legal questions.

Hank

Can you wear a watch on the line? It's definitely an electronic device. What about an electronic timer. Might need to switch to one of these.

Are illuminated floating dot reticles allowed? Do you have to check your scope in before the match to make sure that the battery has been removed from your "electronic scope"? :D

Personally, if it is not attached to your rifle does it really matter?

@JFrank nailed it.

Depending on the venue... no, you can't.

2017 FCWC, smartphones, smart watches and even fitness trackers had to be left back in the 'ready' area behind the line. Anything that could receive even an SMS message was not allowed, to prevent someone receiving "coaching" from behind the line.
