not enough bevel on rim. i have a 700 with snap in riveted extractor that either hangs on the edge, or swages a crescent onto the cartridge head if i am 'too' forceful. same bolt works fine with lapua and peterson brass (which has a deeper bevel).

That brass works just fine in my 700's. Maybe it is a Remington tolerance issue with the bolt or chamber size.
Is this brass virgin or fired a time or two?

Wow, what a pain to have to deal with. I wonder if all lot numbers are like this? Hopefully not the case.

not a remington cut chamber. brass came used with another package deal, so lineage is unknown. action is new rr version. action is B series with riveted extractor.

Can't say for sure but it sounds like at least part of the issue may be that he brass had been fired in a different chamber previously. If you're having to be forceful with it, it's likely tight in your chamber. I don't understand the "hangs on the edge comment though. Does that mean the bolt is not closing? Is that when you're having to use force?

Shouldn't have to but you can chuck a couple of pieces in a drill(or lathe) and hit it on a file to put more bevel on them just to see if that fixes the issue

i sized down the base with .308 body die, and made sure the shoulder bump was good. but yes, as i close the bolt i can't get the extractor to 'pop over' the edge without a 'running start'. if i 'preload' the brass onto the bolt face (ejector is removed) it closes normally.

i shall take your advice and modify a couple ... nothing to lose, eh?

The body die may not fix it being tight when fired but that's a different issue. How much are you pushing the shoulder back? It might help to reduce that number just a tad.

The mark in the last pic appears to be on the other side of the rim. That's what made me think it might be tight when extracting...fwiw.

bump was about 0.002 to 0.003 in most instances. the mark is on the face of the bevel, where the extractor hit it while chambering.

i just recreated the issue with brass i fired in the chamber. same deal. chambers with just a little resistance if i snap the cart under the extractor.

oh, and made a correction above, it is B series action with riveted extractor.

i am about to get out my super fine calibrated file...
