Why Mauser cartridge types out of stock?

I wanted to order some 6.5x57 and 7x57 Mauser brass and it is suddenly unobtanium??? What is going on? Same thing for 280Rem, 280AI, 7x57AI etc.....Normaly these are easy to get in the past even when everything else was unobtanium.

I can not believe that everyone and their mom have suddenly decided to have rifles chambered for these so is it some sort of supply issue? Just seems strange!

I am kind of used to all things Mauser 8x57 and 7x57 based being immune from ammo and reloading componets shortages! I have not seen a shortage on these cartridges in my 51 years on this Earth!

I know what you mean. I have a Mauser 98 military rifle I had built, and chambered for 275 Rigby. Dimensionally identical to the 7x57. Hornady made a run of the Rigby headstamp several years ago. I bought some, but have used the 7x57 to preserve my Rigby headstamp. I hope to get back to RSA and Zimbabwe one more time and since the rifle is lettered 275 Rigby I am saving my brass for that dream.
I haven't seen any 7x57 brass in more than a year, and bought the only two boxes of loaded ammunition I saw here this spring.

Good Luck with your search,

ISS

There have been lots of shortages of various components in many years. (rolling shortages)

With the swing to the new and better, so some think, PRC type of new cartridges and all the long range, rage in shooting, the old, dependable and fine cartridges are just not selling, so manufactures are letting new supplies slip and they have full bore turning out the new and latest cartridges.
You best start putting out WTB ads and/or start forming brass using the old 30 and other caliber brass that you can find.

All that you can buy now is 6.5 mm components. lol

When I was on the Mauser kick years ago, I had several DCM wood
crates of once fired 06 brass. That was my feed stock for forming cases.

As Joshb pointed out.....Cartridge brass, and mainly copper is being
focused elsewhere at the moment. Current brass scrap in my area is
at $2.03 lb. Going to take a bucket down and get me a shoulder clod
to smoke......

Suddenly? When was the last time you tried to find some? All x57 stuff has been like chicken lips for a few years now. From 6mm Rem all the way up to 9.3x57, PPU is about the only new empty brass I've seen in anything x57 since the coof shortage started. I'm sure there is still some grossly overpriced Nosler still lingering in a few places, but even that is scarce. I snagged some PPU 6.5x57 a few months ago from Graf's for my 257 Roberts. Not as good as older WW stuff, but better than a sharp stick in the eye after a trip thru the sizing die. It sold out quickly.

If 6mm Remington gets forgotten and unable (largely) to be handloaded, that is a real shame.

I recently picked up a #1 in 275 Rigby, couldn’t find brass, ran an ad for 7x57 brass as suggested in post #4 and ended up with 200 pieces of brass. It’s out there, you might have to put some effort into finding it.

Graffs had some 7x57, I think it was nosler brand, may have been last year. or norma. gunbroker and gunsinternational will at least have some. expensive as heck. NOS

I agree 110% on the PPU. I have been scrounging old Rem, WW, Norma etc last few years. expensive but the old US stuff appears to be pretty good. I think old Norma is about the best

Welcome to the world of cartridge insanity! Those cartridges you posted are two of the finest ever designed and have a very long history of success in Europe (6x55*) and Africa (7x57).

*Did you mean 6.5x55 instead of 6.5x57

A friend had trouble finding 257 Roberts factory ammo, another very excellent cartridge.

Yet more and more new cartridges keep being introduced, which on paper are superior to the legacy cartridges yet in practicality, offer nothing the vast majority of shooters can profit from because as always, it's the person behind the rifle that is the limiting factor. How many degrees of dead do critters have to be?

You wonder why we have shortages - well with the inordinate number of options in cartridges, powder, bullets, etc. no supplier is going to be able to stock them all. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it rarely is.

It's all about marketing.....If there wasn't a batch of NEW cartridges brought out every/every other year how many shooters would complain about the industry getting stagnant? There are so many old cartridges that perform so well on game that I think most of us just believe in the hype and not in the practical.
Look at all the different cartridges made off the H&H, NEWTON, SCHULER, and JEFFREY cases. Absolutely nothing wrong with any of them. Maybe an upgrade in metallurgy of the brass for modern pressures but that's it.
