Soooo much brass prep!

This weekend I prepped 750 pieces of new starline 556. I lubed the necks with graphite, mandrel, debur\chamfer, primed. My thumb had a blister after only 250. I gotta get 3 way cutters for my trimmer! Chamfering is too hard on the hands!

Just a few more weeks of the big heat here in vegas, then its load development time ! Gonna be a massacre on the prairie!

I made myself go to a Lyman M die and a Lee factory crimp die for my AR 223 brass. It still seemed labor intensive for a large run.
Its 556 brass, but its for bolt guns. 250 for my buddies tikka super varmint and 500 for my tikka varmint. We sling em at prairie dogs, so 100 to 200 a day is easy to do.

Ironically, I loaded 250 for my gas gun last year and it might be a lifetime of calling song dogs . Dang gas guns make me wanna barf when they mutilate brass and I can't find the brass in the bushes!

Lol thats fine on the bench. That thing would be getting snagged hiking through the brush and in n out the truck 10 times a day.

I've been very happy with this model. When it arrives it's much smaller than the pictures make it seem. You can also order a smaller box for catching brass.

Easy to modify with a dremel if you have a side charger.

I use these brass catchers on my AR's, both side chargers and charging handles. Work like a charm.

I have two questions on that front if you don't mind:
1. What trimmer do you use, and do you like it?
2. Do you like that Lyman case prep station?

I'm getting back into prone and XTC after a few years off, and looking to streamline my reloading. Case prep is by far my most time consuming step, so trying to evaluate my options for power tools

I have a lyman case prep express trimmer i think it's called. A company recently started making a triway cutter for it. I like it, but it is the only trimmer I have owned. Same for the prep station. I know I would not like a horizontal one, so that rules out some other prep stations.

Thanks! I've been looking at the Lyman trimmer, too, and will check out that 3-way cutter. And good to know you're happy with the case prep station, it's also on my short list!

I have a caldwell one for the range. Sometimes it moves, blocks ejection, and then the bolt crushes that piece of brass. Is this one better?
I tried the Caldwell and was frustrated. I don't recall where I first saw the 3-BUCC, but it works slick. There is a mounting block that goes on the pic rail, then the bag attached to the mount with two rods. I have a mount on each of my uppers, and move the bag from rifle to rifle. The bag has a velcro opening at the bottom, but I generally take it off my rifle to empty, just because. Very secure and stable. I rarely if ever experience any ejection issues that I can blame on the catcher.

Cut down a 20 gauge hull. Drill a 1/4" hole through the primer. Stick a bolt down the hole from the inside, put nut on outside, tighten down. Put chamfering tool inside hull. Chuck in drill. Chamfer outsides, then reverse tool in hull, chamfer insides.

You're welcome....

There are things you can do to stop your rig from overly damaging brass - but you definitely want to get a decent brass catcher. Can't imagine not using one. With my A/R's, I find 2% brass loss due to damage to be acceptable after each firing of a container of ammo, on average. I make sure they are not over-gassed and I polish the sharp edges of the extractor claws, etc.
