1st round of load dev

I have my thoughts but I want to hear what you guys think before chiming in. Gun: Zeus action, Bartlein 26" 1:7.5 by SPR, trigger tech diamond SS (need to increase by about a pound) chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. All once fired Lapua SRP. Thses are shots 101-130 on the barrel. First 100 rounds were all shot at 41.2 H4350 for breakin.

Weather 105 - Wind ~6-8
Velocity Avg
Factory 140 ELDM - 2787
40.4 - 2782
40.6 - 2806
40.8 - 2824
41.0 - 3834
41.2 - 2840

What optic? (Vertical)

My thoughts- that’s a lot of vertical. Refine your bipod and bag setup. Look for something that’s too hard.

Use a CCI 450.

Do a full seating depth test at the lightest load. Seating is way more important than charge weight.

Don’t do LD when it’s 105.

Ugh it's gonna be that temp for a while here in Vegas. I need to get some rubber feet for the bipod. This is a concrete bench with a rear bag that needs a to of coaxing (weibad fortune cookie). I'm using CCI450s. Optic is a vortex hd gen II 4.5-27

A piece of thick carpet under the bipod will help. Also, the fortune cookies are great for the field but grab you a rabbit ear protektor for the range. Let some sand out of it when you get it.

Looks like next weekend is a op for you in the mornings, esp Sunday with lighter wind. Obviously that can change but if you're flexible... suggest trying a lighter load, esp in hot temps. Maybe for grins try 39.3, 39.6, 39.9 just to see if there's any change, at least in the nose bleed temps.

Mine likes 143gr at 2660ish and 2740ish, I hit pressure near the next node so didn't go there.

What’s missing here IMO is the load coming into tune and going out towards the next node. Assuming there’s a node around 40.4 the next one should be around 41.6 or so. I would say less rounds and more increments above and below the samples shown here.
A solid front rest is always a plus ..

Personally, in my first round of load dev, I would use larger powder charge intervals. With 6.5 creed and it's 52.5gr case capacity doing intervals of 0.2grs is just too narrow. I wouldn't go that small until the very last testing

What I look for in my first round of load dev is horizontal stability between charge weights. I'd do that by intervals of 0.5gr or 0.4gr. You really want the target to show you the change in horizontal as you increase charge weights. Then when you have found the span of charge weights that stays consistent horizontally, that's when you fine tune powder and seating depth.

Also what distance were those shot? If at 100, I'd look at different bullet or powder if you have the option. Save components rather than trying to make those groups better.

I’m thinking along the same lines. Lower node - while still fast is between the factory ELDM and 40.4. Seems like the higher node - which I’m not sure I want to explore is probably right above 41.2 like you said.

I know this is a somewhat narrow range but previous 6.5s have been in this range. This barrel is longer and faster though. I’m going to do seating death testing with 40.2-40.4

Also I’m gonna try a game changer schmedium as a front bag next go round and eliminate the bipod

I have a stockpile of 140/147 ELDMs, H4350 and CCI 450s. I’m confident I can get it tightened up. As I was saying in a response to another member. I really did a narrow range based on universal loads and prior load data.

I get ya. I'm my 7mms I'll do anything I can to get my 150 ELD-X to work. I'm stubborn like that.
