Our Constitutional Rights

I'm in NY so I feel your pain. I feel like it will always be an up hill, losing battle here in NY. They can push out laws faster than anyone can keep up. With the injunctions and waiting periods, then SCOTUS kicking it back down to the lower courts. It's already been a couple years of fighting the new laws they put in place here. Probably be a couple more before an actual decision is made.
I'm also stuck behind enemy lines in NY. Kev is correct. SC rulings in favor of 2nd ammendment rights. Fantastic. State & local governments lean back in leather chairs, belly laugh, then auto-vote new restrictions that were pre-drafted and ready to be signed. They use our own taxpayer dollars to fight the lawsuits and just roll on along when they lose. Until such time as laws (and unwavering punishments for violations) are enacted for enacting unconstitutional laws it will be business as usual and the citizen pays the price. My state is a prime example of tossing citizens another cinder block as soon as out heads break the water.

This world has got so far off the values I grew up with that I don't even know where to start but it's more than just our second amendment rights,

It's pretty much all of our rights. The won't let us have the 1st, or 4th amendment, 14th, et al, and Newsom is trying to add a 28th Amendment which would eliminate our 2nd Amendment. If we let the left do as they want, they will continue to treat people like us criminals, while letting the real criminals out of prison and release them back on the street. The only thought that comes to mind is, "don't enter my castle as that threatens me!"

Jay with all due respect thats BS. Our founding fathers overthrew an oppressive dictatorship and none of them became a dictator. They wound up hunted and broke.
Speaking for myself, I'm very appreciative to the founding fathers for having the foresight to put law in place to protect us. So much has gone wrong in regard to so many of our bill of rights. This is not the time to let down our guard, the left is on the attack. Legally, they can't take them away easily. Illegally they can do just as they've been doing...

I don't disagree with what you say, but that was a different time and situation with people that truly had a higher goal.

My concern with talk about the use of violence to alter our laws is who is supposed to participate in this violence? Who determines what laws we abide by or is this an individual determination?
There are a lot of laws I disagree with or wish were done differently.

I'll bet that we wouldn't need term limits for them if we were to make it illegal for legislators to have any investments or connections with private stocks.
A congressman, senator, Supreme Court judge -- these positions should be held by folks who are motivated by patriotism and altruism, not by personal enrichment.

This is of course my opinion, and it's worth what ya paid for it. jd
I paid $60 to hear your opinion along with everyone else's, just as everyone is subjected to mine.
Yes we're on the same page.

And in recent news, there is a proposal to install term limits on SCOTUS, and be able to put new justices on the bench every couple of years.

I’m thinking that they should probably have term limits on congress if they want to go that route.

However……..
I don't know if 'term limits' is a good solution. But accepting graft, payola or gratuities should be against the law. The court ruled it was OK to accept gratuities or graft after the favor was done, not before. Justice Thomas, by his own admission has accepted $4 M since appointment, before cases were before the court. This is not a liberal/ conservative discussion. No one left/ right or what ever should be above the law. Read up on the decisions by this court. The gratuities decision was over a case with a mayor accepting payment after awarding trucking contracts. This court has changed precedents that stood for many years, some well over 100 years (Citizens United). Please read more, look up retired conservative Judge Micheal Luttig, a Federalist Society member, he can be found speaking on YouTube with many people.

Tricky post. Delete the words “and others”. What say you now?
I'm going to guess the others might be people not on this forum?

Since the inception of this country, our schools, colleges, and even churches considered our constitution to be an incredible, beautifully written, and pretty much sacred document. And it is not so much a list of rules that WE have to follow, as a list of rights and freedoms that the government must protect and guarantee.

THEN, -- we quit teaching our own children about it, and training "constitutional lawyers" to interpret it in ways that disregard it and subvert it. It is to the point where probably 80% of folks under the age of forty probably can't accurately describe what our constitution is, when it was created, and for what purpose, let alone describe any of the Articles or Amendments.

THEN--- we have allowed millions of people to swarm across our border, who have no idea of our constitution or its purpose, or respect for it. They simply know that this country seems to be a big honey-pot where they can prosper, from either hard work or hand-outs. They can't be expected to respect a 200+ year old document any more than our home grown mis-educated idiots do.

Once an infringement takes place - like the suppressor thing, it is incredibly difficult to re-gain that lost ground. We need to remember that as the important thing and prevent it in all respects.

To quote a great song by a bunch of "60's" libtards,

@jds holler I pretty much agree with you, but I have to ponder how we got to this point in our country? If the founding father's put in place for us not to lose our 2A, how has this happened? I have been infringed my entire life, and I'm 65 years old. How could we have let this happen? We have taken too much for granted over the past 100 years. We can't trust the left.

"Gun owners for Democrats, is comparable to chickens for KFC."

That made me spit ice tea on my keyboard! :p
