Urbanrifleman's Barrel in 223 AI ....Saweet!

Just completed my build in a 223 AI
starting load development
Today

26 GR AA2230 with Hornady 62 GR ELDVT seated .020" off lands
Tikka T3X Action
Brad's Barrel 26" 1-7 Twist
KRG XEay with closed forend ARCA
Tikka Trigger lowered to 1.5
Discovery 5 x 25 Gen 2 Mil
Arken 20 MOA Base 34mm
Maxim Defense PRS Can 6.5

First shot was 3400 fps and gas in face
looked at primer ..small hole

2nd shot gas in face 3300 fps ..
Stopped at that point ...tore down remaining rounds and
started over at 24 gr AA2230 ...

2nd string of 5 ...dropped to 3005 fps
SD 6
no signs of pressure ....grouped into a 1/2" group

using fireformed brass
Lee Neck sizing die for 223
Lyman 223 seating die


I decided to try 25 gr ...had 3100 fps ...grouped for shit
and popped a primer ...
stepped back to 24 GR ...sweet spot ..

I'll try some Power Pro 2000 MR powder tomorrow
and the Sierra TMK 69 gr ...

I'm really happy with Brad at Urbanrifleman
his barrels shoot as good as my X Caliber and Criterion
and quality is equal...and he's a great guy !

BTW I watched a few YT channels about these Discovery scopes ..the ED PRS GEN 2 5 x 25 x 56
FIR FFP -z in particular ...
I had to give it a shot at $332 after the code applied ...I received a ton of gear from them
the scope quality has me speechless.....it's every bit as good or better than the Arken EP 5x 25


I've had Loopy MK4 and IOR Valdada back in 90's and 2000's this scope
is better !
Glass is same or dare I say better ?
I have $2500 into this rifle complete and it's a dream to shoot ...
Once I map this load dope out , she's going into the field to harvest Yotes ...

Try one of these scopes ...I just ordered another today !

I would suggest you go the CCI 450. Those fed match are soft for a large firing pin. I think.

Or just be satisfied with a little less speed.

If your chrony was malfunctioning that would make sense.

Laurens 223a was shooting 50 tnts that 3750. The 22bra was just about the same with that bullet. We shot the 22bra with the 62eldvt at 3470. I would think the 223a should be about 3350 ish with a 7 twist. Just guessing.

As you can see my 7 twist shoots those bullets very small. That bullet is really spinning it should really fly apart.

I have an abundance of all the manufacturers so I have them on hand..
Ill see if I can push them with the AA2230 I want speed ! thats why I

Nickel Plated mixed head stamp Speer and Federal ...(I'm a varmint hunter)
not a benchrest shooter ...lol .

I've shot some small groups (2s and 3s) with 2000MR in the 223AI with the 75 Amax. Unfortunately, it was about 10 years ago and I have misplaced the data.

You should try TAC powder. I have a 223AI, well several and they like tac. I shoot A2230 in my AR’s. I’m surprised you’re having pressure issues with 25 grains. I shoot 24.6 in standard 223 in the AR with Sierra 62sbt at mag length. My AI stuff is much longer because of my freebore. The AR is 223wylde.

Me too ! hopefully just soft primers ....I wanna push these with some speed !
