Black powder solvent for carbon ring?

Has anyone tried using black powder solvent to remove a carbon ring in a cf rifle? Granted they are different types of powder but both create carbon. I've tried Free All and it seems to work well but I was curious about the black powder solvent.

The carbon from black powder is not the same as the hard carbon ring in a high pressure smokeless cartridge.
Black powder fouling can usually be removed with hot soapy water.
A carbon ring is going to require brushing with a good carbon remover and possibly an abrasive.

Yes . I tried several of the Black Powder cleaning solvents , and none of them worked . Now I have a couple bottles of the stuff taking up space on my shelf . Any ideas what to do with it will be welcome .

They make a fine 'first pass' solvent to remove the loose powder fouling. That's about it . . .

Water is the universal solvent. Ask a chemist.

I use Bore Tech C4 carbon remover as a first step. Applied with brush. It may take multiple tries, as that carbon is really baked on.
Follow up with a slightly larger brush may help.
It will come out with JB bore paste and a brass brush, but again it takes multiple tries.
Just keep at it, it will come off.

You might be surprised at the water content of a lot of bore cleaning products these days. C-4 and Eliminator from BoreTech are mostly water, for example.

I am a veteran. A weapon carried muzzle up in the rain may collect water in the bore. That's potentially nasty business. That's different from cleaning, where you purposely put fluids in the bore to accomplish a specific task. Cleaning requires removal of whatever you put in the barrel and chamber. Failing to do so introduces the possibility of all sorts of potential problems, including catastrophic ones. Water is no different in this respect than oil, JB, Iosso, grease, Hoppe's or anything else that might see barrel steel. If present in sufficient quantity, all will behave as an obstruction and ruin the party. Therein lies the reason behind pounding the info.

Water, does cause an obstruction problem as those you mentioned but unlike them it also promotes rust as an added attraction.
Water will not clean carbon not copper. When you fall muzzle first into a rice paddy you can certainly use it to remove mud.
