GOUT

Thanks to all you guys that answered my call! How many mg of tart cherry juice/extract/gummies are you taking to prevent an attack? Are you using the Walmart tart cherry juice of buying a concentrate? The gummies are easy, the concentrate is not so much. Directions for the concentrate is 6-8 oz a day. That sounds like a lot! I am going to lobby my Doc for Allopurinol.

Knew a bunch of old guys could help me! Thanks again!

Bill

I don't use the tart cherry juice regularly, mostly because i find it disgusting. Also, if I am careful of what I eat and drink, I can mostly keep the gout away. What I do is if I feel a gout flare up coming, I'll drink a gallon a day for 2 days, and usually it will stop the flare up from getting bad, and if not it will help it go away much faster.

this is NOT the thread I replied to, you've deleted the thread I replied to
I don't understand why you'd move my post to this thread...splain please ? and remove my post since it is out of context !

I can tell blackrifle has never had gout. Gout will make you consider removal by any means! I find the concentrated cherry juice disgusting too. The addition of vodka sounds interesting!

Two of these pills every morning keeps the gout away for me.

There is a newer drug available called Krystexxa that is administered via infusion It claims to remove the uric acid crystals from the body. The infusions are pricey like $60,000 annually I was told treatments are every two week for at least 1 year. Never pursued the treatment , more conventional treatments helped my condition Just putting it out there for informational purposes

Tried many prescribed meds, and home remedies. Avoided trigger foods and drinks.
MELOXICAM works better than anything for myself, and others I’ve discussed it with.
Two pills when ya first feel it, and one the next day. Good to go! Eat/drink anything.

I had a gout flareup suddenly in my late 30s. It was around 1998. I woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain in my left big toe. Had to crawl to the restroom. Went to the walk in clinic and the Dr. confirmed it was gout. Sent me home with some prescription, been too long to remember what it was. I missed 2 days of work and spent another couple on crutches. A year or so later I had another flare up in the same toe. Same thing, missed 2 days of work but this time I was able to get into my regular Dr.. He put me on Allopurinol and I started taking it every day....that is until 2012. I lost about 100 lbs and took myself off all of my meds. Went for my regular checkup and the Dr. confirmed that my uric acid level as well as my BP were normal. Never had another flare up. I've put about 30 lbs back on but last time I had my uric acid checked it was 7.3 mg/dl.

Wanted to add: Over the last 10 years or so I have developed neuropathy in that toe. The Dr. said it might be caused by damage from those two gout episodes. I have to take gabapentin daily to keep it from waking me up constantly. I usually take one in the morning but sometimes a second and even a third later in the day. I can tell when its coming on. Not really bothersome during the day but at night its like someone is jabbing me every few minutes with a pin. Gabapentin works.
