Is it best to start with a bit of a jump or with the bullet seated in the lands with these bullets?

Way back when, I got in on the 'beta' test phase on these. My understanding was that Jerry Tierney was involved with the 'alpha' tests, so I reached out to him for any hints on seating depth, etc. His response was "set them to 50 thou". 50 thou? "Yep, you'll see".

So... I set them to 50 thou jump in my Sav 12 FTR, with the factory Obermeyer chamber (similar to a '95 Palma, just a bit longer throat) and I think it's pretty safe to say... they shot pretty well ;)

Also of note, there wasn't a whole heck of a lot of bearing surface left in the case neck. Like well under 0.100"... so they definitely needed a little care in handling. Seeing as we're generally shooting slow fire, single load in NRA Fullbore, Palma and F-class, it wasn't a problem.

I just have the SAAMI spec chamber with .090 freebore so there really isn't much holding the bullet. I'll probably end up with another barrel with the Fullbore chamber.

I shoot them in a SAAMI Tikka loaded to 2.895", miles off the lands and was getting ragged hole at 100m. They seem quite forgiving. 44gr N140.

I loaded them to 2.271 ogive length and the OAL varied from around 2.985 to 2.995 or so which is .005 into the lands. I'll see how this works and try a jump after that. 43 grains of AR Comp.

I shoot the 155.5 FB in my 30-06 target rifle. It's chambered for the Sierra 210gr. MK bullet. So the 155.5 bullet has a long jump. So I loaded so the neck of my brass had all bearing surface of the bullet in it and the bottom of the bullet was at the top of the powder column and I have about .120 jump. These bullets are the most accurate bullets at 500 yards I have. Beyond that the heavies do better because of the wind plus they slow down much faster. With a bullet like the 155.5 I start with all the bearing surface in the neck and the bullet base at the top of the powder column. This is where you want the bullet, so I start there and most often this shoots best in the target rifles I have. That bullet does not have a lot of bearing surface to start with.

I notice with identical loads the 155gr Scenar-L's get about 100fps more velocity than the Berger 155.5gr. More bearing surface on the Scenars I presume?
