Every bullet, gun, cartridge, barrel is different in my opinion. I always start atleast touch and work back. Some I start about .006 in and work back

Absolutely correct. No two rifles will want the same seating depth for a given bullet.

Unless you shoot 30BR and they like 20th jam, 6PPC likes about .009 thou, some less some more, very few will like jump. 30BR need the extra pressure created by the hard jam.

There are several variables involved, so it just rally depends (e.g. length of the freebore, length of the bearing surface, shape of the ogive (Tangent vs Secant), chamber's lead angle). And keep in mind that it's NOT distance from the lands that's really important, it's seating depth (how deep the bullet is into the case). . . unless you're touching or jamming the bullet.

Most of the bullets you’re asking about I run at magazine length in a hunting application.

All my rifles are used for LR hunting and Varments, goes back to what I said originally every rifle, cartridge etc is different.

All of those bullets have been tolerant of jump for me, which is good for hunting/varmint bullets because most will not load into the lands for the field. You need to be able to unload a live round, without bullet movement in the field. I usually start 0.020-0.025 off the lands(if that fits the mag). I start 0.050 off with lead free bullets, again if that fits the magazine.

Many times I don't ever have to move from this starting point, as time and again, .009 to .015 in is the best seating depth by a huge margin. Try it and you may be shocked! I have never pulled a bullet with this setup in a hunting situation.

I could probably go your route today, for many years I didn't have comparator equipment. Makes seating depth adjustments so much easier(more accurate than coal and dealing with bullet tip variance).
