Sako vixen 20-222

Went for a walk about this evening. Snuck up on some chuck holes in the cow pasture. My sweetheart with me. 20-222 Sako l461 lilja 3 groove 11” tw vx2 3-9. Smithed by dave bruno and reblued. 20.5 grs H4198 32gr vmax. freehand 35 yards. Feeds like butter. Love this cartridge.

Beautiful rifle and apparently it's enough gun! I have a similar Sako in 17-222 and share your appreciation for
the fine old world craftsmanship. Nice shooting.

Another walk this afternoon

So I went out yesterday with my 20-222, and had the pleasure of borrowing my buds chronomagiggy. I've been shooting primarily this same load for a few years now, and had no clue as to the FPS. It's pretty mild, accurate, and plenty of room to increase, but I think I'll stay with it at 3600.


I did quite a bit of farting around with a few other rifles, including my 223 AR, and eventually the squirrels started popping up and I wound up spending all afternoon, pounding them pretty hard. They're about as big as these squirrels get, about like mid size prairie dogs.

Did you have just the barrel re blued or both the barrel and action blued at the same time?
Does the bluing match?
The bluing on the barrel looks very good.

That's 20 Plain Jane. Guys used to call this cartridge that.

Your Sako is a peachy little package. And what a nice walking around rifle. Mine is a 12 pounder. It's like walking around with a High-Lift Jack. jd

I love those old Vixens, I have two in a 222 and 222 mag, the bluing on that rifle fits, gorgeous! Dave did a great job!. I also a 20-222 set up on a Tikka with a Hawk Hill smithed by Zack at ODCR. It’s a fun rifle, no recoil, you can watch your hits. Im using H4198 and 39gr Blitzkings. I have a pile of 222 brass, just made it easy to build a 20 cal for it, easy to load for too.

Had everything done at the same time. Lilja 3 groove CM 11”tw they had the contour for a sporter vixen listed. All bluing matches. Dave sent it back to me looking better than new. An absolutely beautiful job. I literally could not believe it when i recieved it. Maybe ill take some close ups when i get a chance.

Thanks jds , its such a petite little thing. Very easy to carry. I shot these chucks free hand, snuck up on em.

Dave has been amazing for me. And hard to beat a tikka and the blitzing. Its been fun and super easy super accurate. This cartridge should be the answer to the vartarg feeding problems one would think. It dont get any easier or cheaper.

hi matey, yeah its a cracker to shoot, i only use berger 25 gr target in it, also viht 135, and im getting 3850 fps,which i think is fast enough, i used hornady 25 \20 gr vmax years ago but,build qaulity was rubbish on them, so i went over to bergers they work well out to 400yds on rabbit and crows, ive taken fox out at 300yds no problem, its easy to load for, its easy to clean, i use an old leupold mk4 16x 40 on it its awsome i love it oh the stock is a mcmillan its quiet with a mod on cheers dave
