Loading for a hunting buddy. Hog hunt. Sticking with 120 -125 grn pills.

Somewhat confusing reading the various manufacturers load data. I see some at max 39kpsi and some at 52kpsi.
SAAMI
specs it 45,500 psi.
CPI much higher.
Then the issue of bore size. ( the one I'm loading for is a BCA -AR. supposedly .311 bore BTW).
One manufacturer says they saw no issue shooting a CU jacket .310 in a 308 barrel. Hmmmm? PSI?
And no difference in accuracy shooting a .308 in a .311 bore. Hmmmm again . Less PSI?

Powders I was looking at : AA1680 & VV N120 ( for the most part )
Clear as mudd.

Your thoughts are welcomed.

A few 308 cal down YOUR buddies 311 bore will tell you how they work. Hornady Load Data site has loads for 7.62x39 that are good to work with and find a load that is accurate.

l'd be surprised if its 311 more likely 308. mine like 4198 and a certin 123 gr bullet

This day and age I can’t imagine an American company producing a 7.62x39 that doesn’t play well with .310 bullets, seeing as almost all commercially available ammo uses that size.

Once upon a time, Ruger made mini-30s with a .308 bore. But that was a long time ago. And even those were supposed to be OK with imported ammo.

If I remember right, factory velocity on a 123gr bullet is something like 2300 fps.

I load .310s in all of mine, but I don’t have an AR in this caliber. It’s the proper size bullet for 7.62x39. If you’re really worried about it, slug your bore.

Stick to .310/11 bullets. The original factory load is more like Win 296 powder than rifle powders - look at the case - it's almost a Magnum pistol. But a hefty load of N120 is fine too, certainly with bullets over 130g

The Ruger rifle had a long tapered throat to accept 308 projectiles.

Anyone know why the 7.62x39 has a 1-9.25 twist for those short bullets?

Why not just slug the bore and shoot the proper bullet. i like to KNOW when my face is a few inches from 50,000 psi
This, and also, you can call BCA and ask about the bore.

FWIW, my BCA upper shoots both 124 grain .3095 FMJ bullets and 150 grain .308 FMJ bullets well.

I tried 125 grain 308 bullets in my Wyndham AR. They didn’t seem to develop much pressure in my barrel and dropped like a thrown stone at 100. I switched to Hornady 310-11? and got good results. I used same precious H4198 for five hundred loads and put them on the shelf. I haven’t had a need to load more yet.

I bought a sporterized 7.7 Jap years ago, it came with loaded rounds, dies and bullets, I had been loading for a while but still a novice at the time, it shot terrible , I later was looking in a load manual trying to find something it might like and noticed it had a .312 bore dia. I checked what I had been given and was .308 Speer I bought the right bullets , it has a Williams peep sight and 400 yard milk jugs was easy!…

I have some Speer 125gr TNT bullets that I’m going to be testing in my BCA 7.62x39 upper with 16” heavy barrel. I’ll let you know how they do when I get around to it.

Pulled a piece of PPU factory ammo apart to check bullet diameter since it shoots good in my AR47. Spinning the factory bullet in my mic the diameter measured .31010” - .31035”.
