Match Directors opinions

Well, we had a disagreement in our last Mid Range 600yd. on Saturday. At our matches "approved" we run three disciplines, Conventional (sling), AR Tactical and F Class.
The questions are: F Class runs 7 second delay, but does Conventional and AR tactical run no delay? I don't see it specifically
mentioned in the rule book.
Some shooters like to see all shots during string of fire and others perhaps not. I don't believe this is
addressed in any rule book.

I'm sure other match directors run multiple disciplines. What is your opinion? And I do understand that the match director has final word on match protocol.

Conventional and AR tactical run no delay Correct because no section of the rule book specifies it.

Some shooters like to see all shots during string of fire and others perhaps not, I would go with all shots during the string of fire

A Match director usually writes the program and enforces it as worded. If some shooters complain and feel strongly about it, they won't come back and sometimes THAT'S A BLESSING!

In an approved match the electronic scoring needs to mimic pulled targets. After each shot there is a delay until the target comes back "up" with only the last shot showing. A 7 second delay is an average single person target service, some can pull under 5 seconds and some it takes until next week for the target to show up. During a practice session all shots can be shown for group analysis but not during a match.
I would add if they do not like it, show them the gate and tell them not to let it hit their backside on the way out!

This^^^

Goes back to the program- and what the match director chooses/publishes. A delay and only showing the last shot most closely simulates a pulled target. However, the vast majority of the ranges I go to show all shots and have no delay.

For sling, nothing in the rule book gives any guidance. Fclass is only sport that has a delay clearly required.

The seven shot delay does not mimic pulled target pit service. As Elmer Keith said, "Hell, I was there!". It may mimic the very best pit service that was achievable but does not represent the actual experience of most competitors. If you want to mimic the actual experience of pulled targets you will have to program good, bad and ugly pit service and apply that randomly to the competitors. The next generation of competitors will ask, "why are we doing this?" This too will pass away.

And program in an extended delay for when the current shot would have blown the spotter from the previous shot clean through the target and the target is down for repair... :p

Personally, I'd love to see that as just an easter-egg feature if nothing else!

I would conform the settings to the most restrictive rules where multiple disciplines vary.

F-Class rules do not attempt to say that other matches cannot be run simultaneously,, or that someone on the line can’t be there, just practicing.

These things are not technically disallowed, but you could conceivably get into a situation where guys aren’t single round loading, are using brakes, or even shooting rapid fire beside some of the F-Class shooters, while others don’t have that distraction.

1. As a sling shooter a 7 second delay doesn’t really bother me. Maybe if I was shooting from a bipod or rest where I wanted to ram rounds down range I would be bothered by it.

2. The seeing a group deal is dumb. Whether the system plots the group or I do while shooting doesn’t matter. If anything letting the system do it makes a sling guys life a bit easier but really whoop tee do.

3. We should all be firing 2 or 3 to a mound with 45 second shot window and you score the next shooter… now they will really get ppl bitchin…

Just to acquire a little more insight into the discussion. For Conventional (sling) and AR Tactical, do they use no delay and all shots shown at the Nationals?

Interesting. I agree that it becomes less important as electronics target replace pulled ones...but with Bisley scoring, , ie 2 or 3 shooters to a target, showing both strings is currently not possible or desirable. It's still early days for electronics. I feel sure that, in the future, shooters will be able to change their view of the target individually It's no different to the habit of plotting your shots on paper I look forward to saving my targets, rather than a screenshot, more accurate velocity information and more accuracy from the sensors/system. Who knows - benchrest on electronic targets? BTW -I could save my targets, if I had my own Shotmarker access point - but it will be a benefit when software will save and display from exported data without having to provide ones own hardware.

Isn't it one access point per target frame?
Sling target and F-Class target on different lanes?

It’s one sensor hub per target. Every target face and frame dimension can be separately entered.

The warning in the instructions was to never turn on another access point while a match was going. I’m assuming that unless they have been purpose built for a particular use, they compete for transmission information or otherwise interfere with each other.
