They did, Just about everything you can imagine, One of the popular ones is the 25-303. I have the dies and almost everything else to do one, And I will get to it someday.I believe the Aussies wildcated the heck out of the 303 parent case.
Pretty sure you are referring to the M17, not P17.A P14 or a P17 is also known as an EnEnfield.
Yeah, People want to call them all kinds of stuff. I have both of them, 303 and 30-06 and a pile of SMLE's of different flavors.Pretty sure you are referring to the M17, not P17.

I don't get hung up on what designation people want to call them. Pattern 14 M1917 etc.
I have a Siamese I built in 30-348 Improved. My fetish is rimmed cartridges in oddball calibers.I remember that conversion of the Siamese Mauser to 45-70 was very popular years ago, as it was originally made to use a rimmed cartridge. You might want to also consider the 38-55 as a friend of mine finds it easy to fireform cases from the 30-30 cases.

The 25-303 is a versatile caliber that could be used for anything the 257 Roberts is used for.Yeah we didthe donor gun belonged to my grandfather and is currently a 25-03 he used for foxes and goats. He loved shooting and would be happy to see it being turned into something different.
Yeah was pretty effective. They were some of the first reloaders in the area and the the main problems were lack of suitable projectiles (most were too hard and passed through) and brass splitting at the necks. The 25-303 is a versatile caliber that could be used for anything the 257 Roberts is used for.
I learned a lot about Australian calibers and reloading tips that were out of the box thinking from reading books by Nick Harvey.Yeah was pretty effective. Have a hankering for a big bore cartridge based on the 303 Enfield action. For no other reason but want one and would prefer a bolt action over a lever or break action.
Would just be used for putting big holes in paper and thin skinned game.
Ive seen that they used to do 45-70 conversions. Has anyone done similar? Would be nice to have a calibre in the safe that starts with a 4 at least
I saw that he had passed away recently, Very sad he was the Elmer Keith of Australia, RIP Nick Harvey!Unfortunately Nick Harvey recently passed away. I used to spend a lot of my school holidays on my grandparents farm and there wasn't a lot to do so I read pops sporting shooter mags back to front, over and over, taking on all of Nick's technical articles. He also did very comprehensive gun reviews.
Dad had a parker Hale m98 conversion to 243 and a friend had a 7.62 sniper variant.
