Learn from Ruger 10/22 mistake -- Ejected Shell in Vehicle

I live in a small town where we all have to pick up our mail at the local post office. The parking spots down there always have plenty of spent 22 shells, and nowadays a lot of 17HMR scattered on the pavement. Grocery store, tavern, -- pretty much everywhere.

Back in the day, most pick-ups had heater systems that would collect quite a bit of debris before it caused a problem. My buddy blew the guts out of his, (early 80,s GMC) when a BIC lighter sploded in it. jd

Not on private property it isnt...
From the Ohio hunting regulations:

"All hunting from motor vehicles, except boats and machinery being used in farm operations, is prohibited. Hunting small game and furbearers except mink, muskrat, otter, and beaver is lawful from a boat or powercraft if the motor has been completely shut off and the pow-ercraft has come to rest."

That's ALL land, public or private....

Shoot an AR inside your truck wearing shorts. It will be a non issue till one of those hot cases get wedge against your leg. One of those brass catchers can be handy in that application.

I also have a friend who shot an HK91 at about 70 degrees out his window, ejected the case hard enough to crack his windshield. He was not happy

I had some friends that used to love to shoot buzzards from the top of a tree and the farther the shot the better. The older of the two had just bought a brand new Ford F-250 4WD and they went out that afternoon and he shot one that was his longest hit to date. He was bragging big time about his hunt for days. The only part he omitted was the 7mm rem mag breaking the windshield of this one day old pick up.

One of the big problems with Mn, very low concern for PROPERTY OWNERS. Not legal to protect your own property, it should be perfectly legal for at least the landowner to shoot from a vehicle at non game species.
So you're talking crows and coyotes and gophers. The CASTLE law or lack thereof makes me sick. The rest....shooting from a vehicle I just don't see how that's protecting property. I predator hunt on several thousand acres (with permission)in two states and never saw the need to shoot from a vehicle. I stand or stalk hunt predators and I'm not exactly young or mobile. To each his own I guess.
For those not in Minnesota or where legal disregard.

Seems like this thread is turning into a kind of race to the bottom.

I hate to say it, but a lot of the wild crazy stuff we used to do forty or fifty years ago, was often just drunken and stupid stuff. It just doesn't sound very good these days, and I think it's time to stop doing it, -- and to stop talking about it.

Yeah, I think I'm gettin old. jd

On the way to a racquetball tourney decades ago I pull up on shoulder of the highway to shoot a cat , the spent casing flew up and down the back of the shirt of my buddy ...... ops ! This is before I drank alcohol so alcohol has been berry berry good to me .

I shoot prone from the bed of the pickup. I never shoot over the hood or the top. WH
I found out that one shouldn't let their buddy use the hood of your pickup for a rest when shooting a 30-06 at a coyote. We learned that the scope is a 1 1/2" higher that the barrel. At least it missed the battery and we could drive back to the ranch.
