Yes, but makes sure as other mentioned the blade fits well and be careful not the slip or force anything, so no scraping, etc causes nicks, etc to the metal or wood.

Just make sure the blade fits the slot properly. That goes a long way to prevent unwanted carving and engraving..

Of course you can as long as the blade fits the screw slot exactly, tight and no over hang off the slot.
And the blade is hollow ground. On a taper blade screwdriver, it will contact the top edge of the screw slot and deform it. On a hollow ground blade
Would use a Brownells or Wheeler type screw driver blade.
The blade thickness remains the same the length that is in the screw slot. Both Brownell's and Wheeler blades are this type. Often referred to as a gunsmith screwdriver, as opposed to a common type.

to tighten loose wood grips on vintage revolvers?
Be very careful not to overtighten the grip screws. Bad things can happen quickly if you do.

It's never a bad practice to tape around/over the screw of a valuable piece when removing or installing screws. I don't always do it but I've worked on a few $50k+ guns and those...no exceptions. Ya take take it back if you simply make a mistake on something like that. As others have said, using the right screwdriver is paramount, too. I've had to grind my own on several occasions. Here's an example of what a hollow ground bit/screwdriver tip looks like, fwiw.
