Newer rem700 factory varmint rifle

My Remington Varmint 223 shoots .500" or better but it's a 14 twist. I don't think you're going to find much out there with an 8 or 9 twist. I would recommend a Howa mini 1500 in 6 ARC. It is super light and a great shooter. But good luck finding ammo or reloading stuff.
According to remington websight it has a 8 twist

I have a Tikka t3x that started as .223 and I tried hard to work up a great load but ultimately it turned out to be a 3/4” at 100 kind of barrel. So I had it rebarreled as a 222 because I wanted a highly accurate range toy and only the very best Tikka factory barrel would have made me happy.

Anyway its still a very good option my friends T3x shoots half inch groups with the right factory ammo. Great action and my 222 is now darned accurate so the platform is all good.

The news about new 700s being well made is very encouraging. Sounds like you can’t go wrong.

I have worked on, and shot 6 of the newest Remington Arms rifles. They are far better than those from the past recent years, and arguably as good as Remington ever produced. 4 were 308 ADL varmint 1 in 10", 1 was 223 1 in 8" varmint, and one a 7 PRC long range. The varmint stocks are throwaway, I restocked the varmints into wood M40 Vietnam era reproduction stocks, pillar bedded and glass bedded of course and replaced the trigger guard with a steel versions. The 308's averaged .665" 5 shot group with 168s, and the 223 .36" average with 77s - all with tailored handloads. No regrets given the wood stocks, so I think they will meet your expectations. The Tikka is a better rifle all around, but at twice the price (the ADL is $629) but after adding a stock you'll have to decide what makes sense. Here are the stocks I am talking about, while thier Tung oil finish was curing.
So what your telling my is if I got the sps varmint in 308 (belive it has the hinged floor plate I want) and was to drop it in a good stock like hs precision 700 police stock it would probably shoot 1/2in at 100 with hand loads ?

Wish I could find a t3 varmint in 308 to add to my collection..Not the super varmint

Yes I would expect something like that with the right loads technique etc.

I'd push the easy button and get a 8 twist Tikka lite or superlite in .223. My T3 SL in .223 is bone stock other than a trigger adjustment , and will stack my handload into repeatable 1/4" groups from a average bench setup. Takes alot of shooting to eeek out that last little bit , and learning to "catch " the gun the right/same way everytime paid off with several groups in the .1's.

It would save me a LOT of time and headache ! Probably some money also .
At the price I could afford to build a 700 police iv been wanting, her 223 and slowly build my tikka t3

Another thought is to find her a lightly used R700 LTR in 223. Lighter weight with the 20" fluted 1:9 twist barrel. The stock is a more compact version of the HS Precision that comes on the police model.

Mine will shoot 1/2 minute groups with handloads.

Bought a new rem 700 adl from cabalas in 6.5 creedmoor for $579 droped it in a
MDT LSS chassis after barrel break in shoots 5 shot 1/2 moa at 100 yards with hand loads
from the bench love this set up.

I have a stock (though I bedded it and put on a Jewell trigger) Remington 700 Varmint model which I believe has the Bell and Carlson stock. It doesn't shoot factory ammo worth a darn - but will easily shoot 1/3 to 1/2 MOA with select "medium weight" handloads, using 52 Bergers, 52 Nosler CC or 50 V-Max, etc. I forget what the twist is - but I believe it to be a 1-12". For out to 300 yards, one doesn't need a real fast twist. A 1-9" twist would be a good compromise for 50-69 grain bullets, provide minimal recoil for a gal, etc.
It's sounding more like I would be happy with a rem varmint or tikka varmint and drop in my stock of choice. I'm happy with 1/2 moa at 100 . Would you expect at 300 yards ? The rem varmint with 26in barrel has a 1in8 twist and should shoot 77g smk I'd think

I think we have you running in circles, lol.
Yeah I just can't make up my mind . I have to much stuff laying around that was unfinished while my dad was sick . I didn't do anything or finish anything when I was helping taking care of him .

I have this tikka action sitting here And trying to decide if should build off it or just buy her a t3 varmint in 223 . My tikka action will need bottom metal, screws , mags.

Ultimate gole is to have a
700 police in 308
Her a 223
And make something out of this tikka action

I would not be to sure of anything on the current RemArms website, it seems to be constantly changing, much of what's on shelves is RemArms from Ilion, haven't seen and Georgia production yet or heard of any yet.........anyone?

I got one of those 223 SPS, and it is actually pretty nice. the stock is trash of course, and it came with the timney non adjustable trigger, a nice crisp 4 pounds.. but I am making it into a 223 M40 to match the 308 M40. Just because I have all the parts I need to do it. Just getting a new stock and trigger ( another old split sear tombstone safety Walker from the 60's like the big M40 has) , and cut down from 26in to 20 or 22.. haven't decided yet.. I feel like the 223 M40 is going to be way more fun, especially with the AEM5 suppressor on it. I have an old Redfield 3-9x40 for it already, but may get some 30mm rings and put an old NF 3-15x50F1 on it... too many options and ideas.. I cant decide! o_O

ETA yes it is a 1/8 5R
