How much material would you have to remove, how much wall thickness will be left, what's the wall thickness to a standard bolt face?
If the numbers add up I say go for it but I'm no machinist.
Sounds like your planing on shooting your dad's rifle, I say there's not a better way to cherish it.

PPC is 0.446 so no reason why you shouldn't be able to, It's only 0.034, 0.017 on each side, Might not even have to mess with extractor.

I don't see a problem. Looks like maybe the extractor isn't very deep and you may not have to do anything to it.

Nope. Might or might not need to touch up the extractor but I see no reason, especially if you're gonna leave the ejector plugged. I'd bush it and reduce pin diameter while there

The pin is .074 ish. It fits snug. I might change it later. I don't plan on putting any real miles on it. Just want to get it back together for a cartridge I have the gear for.

Well, nothing is ever easy. It had a glued and pinned bushing. Guess I'm getting the silver solder out tomorrow.

I had to do a quick fix on a bolt. Bored the bolt out with a relief groove. Made a bushing with an od groove. Used J-B Weld to fit the bushing. Installed the extractor. Last I heard the bolt had several thousand rounds on it and was still going strong.

I do want to shoot it. Need to figure out my barrel situation and get some BR brass.

Dude they got about a dozen companies that make barrels 5 days a week. One call to Bruno's and that problem is fixed.

Yeah... Debating a new 1:7 barrel to go with my .104 freebore reamer... or re-use the almost new 1:14 barrel thats on there...

Got a new barrel on the way. I just realized it'll be a new challenge to get it fit correctly. The Action sleeve extends 3 inches past the action so I can't get in there and measure very well, and to fit it by hand, the barrel will need to stick out of the lathe quite a bit.

Could you fire form some cases in the old barrel to establish head space and them measure the original barrel like you would with a glue in?
